I like the larger wing idea...but holy smokes...you have biggger balls than i have flying in a residential area.... But this Aeroscout is already a floater in the air....i will say...the fuselage lacks serious structural integrity...i mis judged a tree line with mine and sheered the wing off...was able to get it back together and flys great.....still.

You could have cut out a thin area for the plywood to fix flush with the bottom of the fuselage.Not just glueing a plywood plate on the bottom surface.

Some people have some great suggestions in the comments. If you can, fiberglass reinforcement. Some people remove the landing gears and just belly land.

Same happened to me almost identical but in my case 3/4 of the plywood broke in pieces. I went to the hardware store and get a 12"x12" .028" galvanized steel plate cut and drilled and file a new base for everything out of a template I found on line from a guy who had the same problem. Installed everything back in place, rigged, cg it. and now the plane flies like an angel. I was worried for the extra weight, but the wings and motor can handle that extra more than well. Now the plane does not brake when I crash (not too much crashing though) but it bends a little bit. So If you want to do what I did, reinforce it somehow to counteract the bending. Yes you are right, for some reason the aircraft is quite aggressive out of save mode. I have flown it on intermediate but it has a tendency to over react, and quickly gets out of control. I have the photo of the template the guy published for free. I can send it to you. Tip: to protect and reinforce the foam everywhere it can be hurt, reinforce it with transparent packing tape (lead edges and the whole fuselage, be careful with the base of the tail just after the motor line, on hard landings has the tendency to crack and brake there.

Same thing happened with my Aeroscout. The front wheel design is weak to say the least. Because of the damage to the ply at the front I have removed the undercarriage all together and have the rudder servo servicing the rudder only. I'm experimenting right now with CG and hope to do belly landings or catch it.

The whole problem is in the chassis rack, it does not extinguish the impact, despite the soft wheel, but transmits it to the body of the model. You need to make a shock-absorbing front rack. Or extremely strengthen the front part - and this makes the model heavier, which is not very good.
@RanLes7
@RanLes7 7 ай бұрын
They should have designed this plane with a spring or shock absorber type front landing wheel. I made a custom aluminum plate for my front wheel which has helped preserve it a lot!

Had to repair the front of my Aeroscout for the third time. Eventually settled on a large piece of plastic glued to the base of the nose. On that I mounted the nosewheel in a custom made aluminum housing (with no attachment to the rudder and locked in the forward position) and JB Welded the aluminum plate and assembly to the bottom of the nose assembly, about 1 inch back from it's original position. CG then worked out perfectly. Also adjusted equipment and software to give me more up elevator since this plane suffers badly that way. Waiting to see it it is damaged in the next crash. If so, I will strip it for reusable parts and throw the rest in the garbage. Poor design if you ask me....

It's pretty clear to me that this model has a major design flaw in the nose wheel assembly. It's almost impossible to keep it in one piece if you fly at all. I have broken it three times now and have re-inforced it each time to no avail. I will try one more time but if it fails again, I will dissassemble it for parts and throw the rest away
@TOURMANBOB
@TOURMANBOB Жыл бұрын
This nosewheel problem is clearly a design problem from the get go. I have repaired mine three times, the last being a welded light steel plate and custom wheel holder made in my home machine shop. It is glued on the bottom of the body and is as sturdy as the plane allows. If it breaks a fourth time, I will simply tear the plane apart for the parts and throw it in the garbage where is clearly belongs.

Sir, this is such an inferior design, I don't think there is anything one can do re-inforce it. I custom made a small aluminum plate to glue to glue to the bottom but it tore off the first time I flew it. I subsequently broke it down for the electronics in it and threw the rest away in the garbage. I simply wrote it off a s a bad purchase
@TOURMANBOB
@TOURMANBOB Жыл бұрын
IMO, this model suffers from a serious design flaw in the weakness of the front wheel and it's connection to the plane. It's almost impossible to keep this from breaking off with any number of flights. Even with re-nforcement, it still continues to be a source of common repair needs. I plan to machine and weld a new wheel collar onto a flat steel thin plate and glue this on the bottom in a last ditch attempt to keep it from snapping off. Forward weight may be a problem at that point so I may have to glue counterweights on the rear end to balance it. However, if it breaks again this way, I will strip it of all usable parts and throw it in the garbage. Something this difficult to keep flying is not worth my time and energy.

I would love to see your final results! Hope it works for you. I’m sure it’s a good design for experienced flyers that can put it down smoothly, but it’s sold as a beginner plane so it gets more abuse than it’s designed to handle.

Thanks for the instructions, I just broke mine the same way and was looking for ideas, this will help. I have an idea how the nose wheel assembly works, it looks like the top plate with 3 screws and bottom plate are independent, only being connected by the steering shaft. The top plate holds the steering arm in place for precise control from the servo, and the bottom plate is somehow attached to the foam fuselage to locate the wheel. I couldn't see any screws or other parts attaching the 2.

Hello Geddon. If you look on my channel, you’ll find a Review by a noob (or something like that). Having played with it and now having communicated with a few other people, I think that the Horizon Hobby sport cub, or if you can afford it carbon cub, might be a better choice. I don’t know for sure I’ve never flown them. If you look through my channel, you’ll find that I have been struggling with the nose wheel collapse problem. It is an easy plane to fly once you’re in the air, but the landing is where I am in big trouble. Actually, since I’m doing this by myself, meaning, I don’t have a buddy to help me, I wished the plane flew slower, so I had better time to react to things. If I were to start over, I would find a smaller plane that can fly in a smaller area and goes a little more slow. I’m not taking away from this plane, I think it is a good plane, but I am finding it difficult to not crash. Fortunately, the Styrofoam body does make it easy to repair a lot of things.
