Just FYI, Azores people has somewhat influenced Hawai (I´m sure you´re aware of this, but hey, it's free info :-) ) The ukelele can be traced to the Portuguese cavaquinho (most popular in the northern folclore) that was taken there by Portuguese immigration. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portuguese_immigration_to_Hawaii

Wow, I had no idea about the politics in Portugal!! 😮 That was one of the places I was considering..... but it's more complicated than I'm willing to deal with, especially if the right wing is rising there anyway. A lot of countries in Europe and South America, have great retirement visas
@lisadaigle508927 күн бұрын
I really appreciate your perspective on having lived there for several years, especially the political scene and safety. I'm considering a move when I retire, although I am distressed by the current state of politics in the US.

What about getting a temporary visa, like for 3 or 6 months? The countries I'm currently looking at are Ecuador, Panama, Malaysia, Philippines. They have easy short-term visas and income requirements I can afford.

US is now a shit hole. Full of hate and guns, racist, going after women's rights. Horrible. I have been around the world and been in many places. I have had friends leave in one month and are doing great. They all got citizenship.

You are talking to mostly materialistic, American empty brainers with garages full of junk ,bills and debt piled up their "choo choo chimney" .With zero common sense and fear in their veins lol.Please don't make them leave their comfort zone and worsen the situation in other countries for us who are genuine travellers or expats.Great disservice to locals in other countries as well to accept more of these spoiled Karens into their midst and cultures.Strumpf or not stay the hell where you are.

Try asking yourself why millions of Americans have left the U.S. in recent years. I'm been in Europe and South America. Other countries have much more affordable, high-quality healthcare, first rate public transit, much lower crime, and many quality of life issues.

The best-case scenario is that Trump is deliberately provoking those who dislike him, but once in office, he’ll prove that the concerns about him aren’t true and won’t make the world more dangerous. Hopefully, he won’t pull the U.S. out of NATO and will step down peacefully at the end of his term, following the Constitution and maintaining global stability. The worst-case scenario is that nowhere in the world will feel safe to move to.

Most people don't have the balls to move, especially, if you are older, I retired early and the left the shithole of NYC and moved overseas. However, moving internationally, I have a lot of stuff, sold a lot of stuff off (quite expensive). And the most important thing, Healthcare - God forbid, you have medical issues and then you can forget 95 percent of the planet. It took me over a year to plan my exit. You can't just get up and leave, those days are over - You need proof of income, have to pay foreign taxes and US Federal taxes ( min. 15%) and then language barriers and cultural barriers - moving is for the adventurous, and if you are not. Stay Home!

@@redwoods7370 Since the election I've been waking up extremely depressed every morning. In four years, it will be far too late.
@redwoods7370Ай бұрын
@@bobtimster62 I have been experiencing the same thing. Everything has gone to gray and when I temporarily forget about the election, it comes back to mind with a horrible thud. We can and will get through this but it is probably going to be hell. I am on Social Security retirement and teach English as a Second Language part time in a college to mostly undocumented students. Both of my streams of income are threatened and it's an awful feeling every day. Stay strong.
