That’s understandable if you don’t own the property. Not many land lords would be thrilled with motorcycles inside the property. They could potentially leak oil or fuel causing damage. I have done it in the past with a unit we were renting but definitely frowned upon. I alway make sure my motorcycles are in perfect mechanical condition first.

Always wear your helmet and gloves. Avoid revving the engine immediately on start up, until the oil pressure builds up. Treat riding with the discipline, and restraint of a professional pilot.

The Oil Pan and any Seal will most likely be caused by the CCV Filter/Catch-Can. You can delete this item with an aftermarket Internal Catch-Can or the OEM CVV part that removes the ‘filter’, however, you are still forcing oil soaked air into your turbo & intake system filling the intake system with carbon soot which can degrade oil, causing internal part damage with early failures. Just delete the CCV Filter with an aftermarket Internal Catch-Can
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 2 күн бұрын
You are correct. The stock ccv filter is an issue on these trucks and will accelerate oil leaks when it’s restricted. My truck ccv filter has been deleted it’s entire life. Vented to atmosphere. The oil pan is still a very common leak unfortunately.

I understand this concept but isnt the threading just goong to be what it is nostter what? Its not like you can leave it loose or overtorque is to get the plug indexed.
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 5 күн бұрын
Correct. You have very minimal adjustment. If the new plugs don’t clock correctly when torqued they are not threaded properly and you would need to return them for new plugs again. It’s probably very rare but still worth checking when installing them.

Very nice video. I've watched it twice over time. I have a 2006 R1 and absolutely love everything about it. Only 412lbs wet. Sounds amazing with a gutted CAT and Dan Moto slip on's. I always mention that extra tech on a bike is a deal breaker for me. I'm sure traction control can save you from time to time but I really don't like a lot of the tech on the newer bikes. And hearing that you can't turn it off while moving sounds horrific honestly... And the drive by wire would change the whole game as well. I like the drive by cable raw feel for sure. Just my opinions. Thanks for the great video! Ride safe guys! 🤙

Thanks for the kind words. I am a bit old school myself and enjoy the feeling of a raw mechanical motorcycle. The 2006 is a damn good bike all around. My 2012 definitely has its quirks but the Crossplane engine is an experience all on its own. Even with all the issues Ive had with it thinking back it was still my favourite bike that I’ve owned.

Most of these bikes will backfire with the catalytic converter removed. Block off plates do lower the chances of seeing any flames out of the exhaust because you will have less oxygen in the exhaust to cause combustion.

Connector type isn’t that important as these are not really out in the elements. A simple butt connector or solder with heat shrink. Basically anything you have kicking around the garage should do the trick.

The top part is not SPE, and is important that you use the SPE one as is designed to work better than the one you have that is red, SPE is black and straight up to connect the hose. FWIW.

@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 19 күн бұрын
Sounds like you are just hearing the turbo vanes open and close. Open vanes will be a deep sound. Closed vanes will spin the turbo faster and give you a higher pitched whistle noise. This is also normal. A lot of times the vanes will cycle at idle to try and reduce carbon build up and sticking. Aftermarket tuners can change that for you if you don’t like it.

After watching two of your videos (both excellent btw) I think you've talked me out of the cross plane R1. I think I'll keep my eye out for a '08. I really like my '03 (bike is crazy light!) but its miles are getting pretty high so if I'm gonna keep riding it I'd want to tear it down and check/ replace many parts, so many that I feel like I'd rather put some of that effort into a 2008 (the "best" R1) build instead.
@JT2JZ
@JT2JZ 21 күн бұрын
My 2006 r1 was probably my most reliable bike. Just turn the key and ride. My 2012 R1 was 100% my most problematic bike I’ve ever owned. Only bike that’s ever left me stranded. With that being said it was also my favourite bike to ride. It made me feel emotions that other bikes couldn’t. I would buy another one in a heart beat if it had lower kms. Hopefully that gives you an idea about just how enjoyable the Crossplane is to ride. Even with all the issues I don’t regret buying it. ( being mechanically inclined definitely helps with ownership )

I have a weird question and it's hard to put into words, but: Does the cross plane have that tippy "wants to fall into corners" feeling that many sport bikes have at lower speeds? Like riding around town/ city traffic speeds. At the moment I have an older flat plane R1 and it's one of the few pure sport bikes that I've ridden that doesn't have that quick, like it always naturally wants to stay upright (holding it's current lean angle & direction) in slow/ tight corners, unlike my CBR (and also, to a lesser extent, the Gixxer I had) which always feels like it really wants to fall into turns, under maybe 30 mph, so much so that sometimes I have to pull the bars towards the outside of turns to keep it upright. Yeah, dragging the rear brake helps but it's not ideal. It's not a big deal and I'm used to it, but now I'm really curious why the R1 doesn't do that, is it because its chassis setup is somehow different from other 1000 super sports? I'm thinking about upgrading my high mile '03 to a nice 2008 or one of the newer cross planes (or MT-10 maybe?) but I never rode one so I'm not sure if a cross plane R1 is worth chasing down.
