it is laughable how badly the first four bars have been transcribed xD. It is not at all what is being played in the background

First bar: The lower note in the right hand should be the top note and the the written top note is wrong, intervalls should be : F C | Db Ab Otherwise, great transcription

Kenny was so brilliant. Sting can pick ‘em. The amazing thing was that he picked out the emergent jazz musicians at the time he did: Branford, Kenny, Omar, Darryl

every couple of years I decide to try and tack this solo. Today is that day again! :) great transcription. Theres an awesome live version (not the same night) but instead of focusing on Kennys playing they decide to focus on Sting dancing up and down the stage!!!

Curious, how would you name the variant chord starting at 2:39 (bar 2 of page 7)? Notes Bb Db Eb Gb Cb.
@nickelliot4301 Жыл бұрын
Depends on what the bassist is playing but maybe Gb 6/11? Idk cool chords though

I could see it as a Cbmaj9#11/Bb
@andersweinstein4 ай бұрын
@@benjaminjaso5433 The notes are those of a Cbmaj9, but the #11 of a Cb chord is F natural. That's not in the chord, so you don't need it.

I mean, next to Hancock, most other pianists are just slickly regurgitating the favored licks they've practiced a hundred times. His solos are symphonies, epic poems of imagination and idea and development and experimentation and unpredictability and expressive storytelling, as emotionally cataclysmic as a Mahler finale. Just monumental.

I first heard this solo when i was about 20 years old and it was before the internet on a mixtape someone gave me. I kept rewinding and rewinding thinking: This singer is great but who is the piano player, because that guy is AMAZING 🤣🤣🤣

The Piano was Nina Simone on her version .Weems’ popular recording of the Gus Kahn-Walter Donaldson song that Eddie Cantor introduced on-screen in the film “Whoopee.” 1927

1- wonderful transcription, congratulations!! 2- a legendary solo, remarkable, timeless, genius. I bought the album back in the late 80's and 30+ years later I still listen to Kenny Kirkland's solo with a sense of wonder, amazement and awe. It gets me emotional every single time. And it is because of the quality of the craft, the absolutely masterful control of rhythm, pitch, and energy.

Good job! Listening to the music however I couldn't help noticing how much they slowed down. They end in half the tempo they began with, which I think mainly the drummer is to blame for. Maybe he ran out of his battery.

Man, the way he keeps it in key, almost just straight blues / boogie style - then just when you've settled in, he goes off on some crazy out of key run - I literally get a physical spasm when I hear it. Just god-like. Dammit.
