Napoleon being on the bottom of your list is great! I haven’t seen all of his films, but I’m sad because I feel that he’s become too hit-and-miss recently. The theatrical cut left me feeling empty, although the eventual director’s cut fleshed out the characters all that more, especially Josephine. I have a theory that makes more sense the more I think about it. The Xenomorph in “Alien” is sexual in design because of the homoeroticism of David. Also, he is power-hungry and is more than willing to kill others. He is initially curious in Prometheus, but becomes a psycho soon enough. I know that plenty of people didn’t like Prometheus and/or Covenant (and they are plagued with issues), but while we didn’t need to know where the Alien comes from, it makes sense that David would be the creator. Fassbender really is such a standout, and brings a fantastic performance that actually gives the prequels a boost!

Just saw the film last night. I liked the character moment in the end when Ed kills Dudley by shooting him in the back, calling back to the speech Dudley gave him early on where he questioned if Ed would be ready to do that to prevent a criminal from wriggling out of responsibility. I especially appreciated how they held back from using a flashback to remind you of that speech, like a less confident director might have done. Great analysis video too!

Saw this one just yesterday, was postponing a good watch for later, and all today am watching every review i can find to see if anyone is as awed as i am. Many people talk about the third act standing out but after hearing your points i came to a strange image that the film is gradually changing all the time. Look: 1st act: psychological sci-fi - discussable and solvable problems, calculated risks, counting losses; 2d act: drama - hard choices and sacrifices made to keep the mission alive; 3d act: horror - everything is falling apart and far out of control, instinctial desires to survive and to do the deed against all odds which are now mountain high; final: surrealism, fine art, allusions, metaphors and all poetic stuff defying everything, catharsis.
