Really great review, agree with basically everything you said. I can't believe how off the rails it went in the third act, I was dreading it thinking there's no way that's what they do and yep they did that. X and Pearl are really intelligently crafted movies with clear themes and meaning while this is just a cartoon mess. It's like West ran out of ideas. The setup was decent and you could've done something clever with it to tie it back to X in another way. Literally anything else would've been an improvement. What a massive disappointment.

I liked Kevin Bacon in it, my only problem with him is he felt way to much like a cartoon character. I really like the movie, although it could have been amazing with a better final act and killer reveal. Pearl remains the best, while MaXXXine is the worst, although I love all 3

Yeah, I agree. For me, as the movie went on, I actually sort of became bored. Also felt like we didn't have enough time with the characters before the kills, so I didn't feel invested. By the way, I love the Buffy boxset in the background!

I very clearly state in this review that it is easily the worst of the 3. Pearl is the best.

My favorite is Pearl, but I liked Maxxxine. I agree the final act is questionable and I had a big problem when the killer was revealed. Overall, there are was a lot going for it and I really liked the references to Bette Davis.

I was disappointed too, I was enjoying the film up until the final 20 minutes or so which got way too silly and over the top for me. I would have been okay with the predictably of it if the reveal still had impact but it definitely misses. Still a fun film (gave it a 3.5) but definitely the worst of the 3.

I think Pearl is the best and Maxxxine is the worst of the three but i still really liked it. Im a fan of giallo films and those elements of this film really worked for me as well as every Kevin Bacon scene

Yeah, Bacon was the highlight for me, as is often the case.

I like Maxxxine but it definitely ain't as good as Peral, it might be better than X. I need to rewatch X

i didn't like the movie either, the third act was nonsensical but the first two were also weak in my opinion.
