Thank you; great effect for something different. The ''medium fiber oil brush'': Is that standard Affinity brush or one have made/acquired? It's it's not in my brushes 😭. I'm not really into brushes but I did like the effect
@davro0621 сағат бұрын
Thanks, pleased to hear that you enjoyed the effect. Yes all the Brushes I used are Standard Brushes, but it's well worth experimenting with different brushes. What version of AP are you using? Hope this helps David

@@davro06 Version 2. Someone has kindly sent me the Version 1 brushes so I now have them :) For a bloke who knows nothing about brushes, I appreciate seeing various brushes being used in real life so to speak. I could do so much with the one simply round Lr5 smart brush I find that's what I use most in Affinity. Affinity needs a similar smart brush to Lr imo. They could also make a lot friends if they had a similar simple grandaunt and radial tools also

Great tutorial but this didn't work for me at all. Cropping the bottom layer simply resized the entire image, including all layers. It was far easier to place the photo in Affinity Design and add the frame there. Thanks for your ideas though.

Hello David, wow, what a great tutorial! So many possibilities that were previously unknown to me. Thank you so much for creating my awareness. I love all your videos and often watch them multiple times. By the way, I also appreciate your relaxed but precise way of presentation - just great! Kind regards Adi. P.S.: Are there actually brushes or something similar that I can use to add dust to objects (e.g. vintage cars in old garages) for composings? I am very curious what your expert tip is.
@davro06Ай бұрын
You're very welcome, and thank you so much for your kind comments. Yes, this technique offers many possibilities for enhancing the lighting in our images, from small pools of light to larger areas as in the video. As for adding dust and dirt to neglected cars, I will have to experiment with it as I'm not sure if a brush or an overlay would be best or both? Great idea! Thanks again, David

Hi. I've used the second method successfully many times, thank you. However, I can't seem to get it to work in version 2.5.5; the HSL adjustment has no effect when the ellipse is nested beneath it. Does this version require a slightly different technique or am I simply missing something? Thank you.

Good one , well shown and very effective. Interesting enough, I have been doing similar for years, long before I knew there was a name for the effect. The main difference ; I was/am too lazy to remove the "subject", so I add motion blur and often transform the whole image (2nd layer) and then do some various forms of masking/blending to reveal the subject. All started when I felt the need to make the actual subject (often just a leaf) stand out from the background . The earliest I can find is 2012. IMO, the effect makes more sense than the (over done) ICM effect which seems more about making bad photography look good 😇 Thanks for sharing ---- I will have a look at your other videos

Thanks for this, top tip…. Take a photo at the beginning of the sequence and one at the end with either your lens cap on or palm over the lens to produce a black blank shot at the beginning and end of the set, then its so easy to see where the set starts and ends when looking at the photos.

Thank you for this but I have a follow up question, if that’s ok. When I wanted to use the macro I’d saved, I went to ‘View’ - ‘Studio’ - ‘Macros’, but when it opened there wasn’t a library showing the saved macro. I assumed I must have done something wrong, so I went through the recording process again, and saved it, only for the original macro to be shown as saved. Is this glitch in the software, or do I need to locate saved macros in a different location. Thanks in advance
@davro062 ай бұрын
Hi @johngravett4638, once you've recorded the Macro, make sure you save it to the library by selecting the icon top RHS 5:56 in the video. The icon has changed slightly in V2 but is in the same location and still has a very small + sign above it. A panel will open Add Macro where you can select a Category and Name it. Hope this helps David

Do you make these changes in the RAW file and then develop them to jpg, or did you first develop them to jpg and then make the changes to BW?
@davro063 ай бұрын
Good question... with my own images, I always make changes in the Develop Persona (Raw) and then edit the image in the Photo Persona saving it in layers as a .afphoto file. The image used in the video is a stock image so it started off as an edited jpg file. Hope this helps David
