I did my 3 day fast, my beta-hydroxbuterate levels were 4.2 before breaking my fast. The next morning then were down to 0.8 after eating pork (with fat) veg and some peanuts (in shells). Feel terrific.

He is certainly top qualified in his medical subjects, but History and Geography is less precise. Alexander the Great lived before AD. I think he mistakes him with Marco Polo and the Portuguese seafarers.

I had been doing so well on keto and regular 7-day fasting, then I relapsed and gained 35 lbs in 4 months (after loosing 60 lbs last year) ): I just weighed myself and just wanted to cry. I am going cold turkey in for a 40-day fast. This comment here is to hold me accountable when I want to give up.

Today 1st May 2024, 4:30am, it's the 3rd day of my fast. My Ketones are up to 2.1, I've never seen levels this high without running. I had a bit of a headache last night but today I'm looking forward to 4pm because I only eat once a day. Thank you Dr Pradip Jamnadas for bringing this to our attention.

👋 Introduction: Dr. Gymnaris is discussing the importance of diet for overall health and the reasons why diets and fasting programs often fail. He emphasizes the need to understand why people struggle to stick to healthy eating habits. 🥗 Challenges with Dieting: Dr. Gymnaris explains that hormonal changes, habits, environment, and food quality have led to difficulties in maintaining a healthy diet. Patients often face cravings, lack of willpower, and various symptoms such as headaches, chills, and mental fog when trying to diet. Relationship problems and feelings of guilt, shame, and self-hatred are common when dieting fails. Some individuals become "functioning addicts," possibly addicted to food without realizing it. 💡 Understanding Food Addiction: Dr. Gymnaris suggests that people may be addicted to certain foods or food components, leading to difficulty in maintaining a healthy diet. Processed foods, high in sugar and unhealthy fats, can lead to addiction due to their unnatural combinations and effects on the body's biochemistry. He highlights the importance of eliminating processed foods to avoid addiction and improve overall health. 🍩 Processed Foods and Addiction: Processed foods cause high insulin levels, weight gain, metabolic syndrome, inflammation, and intestinal dysbiosis. Unnatural combinations of fat and sugar in processed foods lead to abnormal reactions in the body, affecting hormones and metabolism. Flour, in particular, is highlighted as a product of survival but is now consumed daily, leading to addiction and health problems. 🥤 Sweeteners, Caffeine, and Preservatives: Sweeteners, like sucrose, can stimulate dopamine centers in the brain, leading to addiction and increased hunger. Diet drinks containing sweeteners can actually lead to weight gain and worsen overall physiology. Caffeine, preservatives, and processed oils in foods contribute to addiction and health issues, disrupting the body's natural processes. 📦 Conclusion: Dr. Gymnaris stresses the importance of avoiding processed foods, understanding their addictive nature, and making healthier dietary choices for long-term health and well-being. 🌱 Processed Oils: Processed oils, like vegetable oils, are high in omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, which are pro-inflammatory and addictive. Vegetable oils undergo extensive processing using chemicals, making them unhealthy. The switch from traditional animal oils like ghee to vegetable oils has contributed to health issues, including coronary artery diseases, especially in populations like those in India. 🍽 Altered Foods: Foods stripped of fiber and fat, like skim milk, are products, not natural foods. Highly palatable processed foods, like cereals, bypass the body's natural digestive process, leading to quick absorption and blood sugar spikes. 🧠 Addiction Mechanism: Processed foods trigger neurological changes similar to drug addiction, affecting dopamine pathways in the brain. Overeating processed foods leads to tolerance, requiring more consumption to achieve the same reward. Addiction to processed foods downregulates the prefrontal cortex, impairing insight and decision-making, similar to drug addiction. ⚖ Homeostasis and Stress: Processed foods cause a stress response in the body, leading to cortisol secretion and hormonal imbalances. The body's homeostatic mechanisms try to balance the effects of processed foods, leading to energy crashes and mood swings. 🍔 Caloric Density and Addiction: Foods high in caloric density activate dopaminergic pathways in addiction, similar to drug addiction. People become automatic in their behaviors, craving and seeking out processed foods compulsively. 🥤 People often stop at fast food stores to get soda drinks and fast foods. 🍔 Many individuals consume fast foods on the go, even when not hungry, due to addiction. 🧠 Repeated consumption of fast foods leads to desensitization and tolerance in the brain. 🍟 The brain reacts similarly to fast food consumption as it does to drugs like alcohol or cocaine. 🧪 Functional imaging shows similar brain patterns in addicted obese patients and drug addicts. 🍬 Cognitive impairment, cravings, and memory problems result from fast food addiction. 🥗 Decreased attention span and loss of impulse control are noted in binge eaters. 🧠 Small stimuli like food cues trigger neurotransmitter surges in the brain. 🤖 Individuals may engage in automatic eating behaviors driven by food cues or advertising. 📉 Addiction severity index shows the extent of processed food addiction, leading to cravings and withdrawal symptoms. 🤝 Processed food addiction can lead to interpersonal, social, and occupational problems. 😔 Guilt often accompanies knowledge of unhealthy food choices, exacerbating the cycle. 🍫 Processed foods contain addictive combinations of sugar, salt, fats, and chemicals. 🧀 Cheese contains casomorphins that contribute to its addictive properties. 🍞 Wheat products contain gluteomorphins, leading to bread addiction. 🍬 Sweeteners and snack foods are addictive due to their chemical composition. 🥤 Drinking fruit juices without fiber leads to rapid calorie intake and can contribute to addiction. 📉 Implementing strategies like fasting can help break the cycle of addiction and rewire the brain's response to food cues. 💬 Avoid processed and addictive foods: Foods like high fructose corn syrup, crystallized sugar, and processed fats are addictive and harmful. 🥦 Focus on natural foods: Consume foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, avoiding processed snacks and sugary drinks. 🚫 Stay away from processed oils: Opt for cold-pressed oils like olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil, and avoid oils like grapeseed, sunflower, and canola. 🥔 Limit starchy foods: Avoid starches like potatoes, flour, and puffed grains, and opt for healthier alternatives like sweet potatoes and quinoa. 🔄 Recognize poly addictions: Understand that addictions can be interchangeable, so quitting one addiction may lead to another if not addressed properly. 🧒 Start healthy habits early: Encourage children to eat nutritious foods from a young age to prevent future addictions and health issues. 🍽 Follow a Paleo-style diet: Eliminate addictive foods and focus on whole, natural foods to reduce cravings and improve health. 🛒 Avoid processed foods: Stay away from inner aisles in the grocery store and avoid fast food to reduce exposure to addictive foods. 🚫 Don't give in to food pushes: Resist peer pressure to indulge in unhealthy foods and avoid situations where you'll be tempted to stray from your diet. 🧠 Face withdrawal symptoms: Understand that withdrawal is part of breaking addiction and embrace the process to achieve clarity and better health. 🕐 Start gradually adjusting your eating schedule, moving from one o'clock one day to twelve o'clock the next day. 🍽 Skip lunch one day to break the eating schedule and avoid becoming a slave to hunger hormones. 💪 Find a support group to help you through the process of breaking addictions. 😔 Expect some failures along the way, but don't beat yourself up over them. 🤕 Common adverse effects of breaking addictions include headaches, fatigue, drowsiness, dysphoria, irritability, and poor concentration. 🥦 Eat outside your usual eating structure to break the dopamine cycle and reduce cravings. 🏃♂ Exercise, especially during fasting, helps with brain function and increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).

So if you go along with what is said here, you are probably NOT on the wrong track if you have saturated fats, but most unsaturated fats could turn rancid. And it was Prof. Justin Yudkin from the UK who pointed out that sugar was the main culprit behind metabolic issues, not cholesterol. However, trans fats like in margarine, probably mayonnaise and "vegetable" oils like Mazola are not healthy. You should be cautious about the claims made by Ancel Keys. Most cattle, turkey and chicken meat these days is also unhealthy. Why? Because it was fed with grain and not with free pasture accessibility but primarily caged livestock or from mass production.

I do not know what I am doing wrong but sure I am not losing weight. I eat twice a day , everything that is natural but not carbohydrates or sugar, my sugar numbers are beginning to get better، but even though I almost finished my first month, My weight is the SAME, and God knows I prefer to lose aroung 5 kilos in good health.

Love what Dr. Jamnadas is preaching in this lecture. One point he brings up multiple times is the idea of us currently living in a milisecond perse of our bioligical DNA as a human species and how it relates to food. If the mind and body are one and the mind has developed at a rapid rate in the last few thousand years, wouldn't the mind/body connection be much more intelligent as well? Would we not as a human species be able to identify specific needs in our nutrition at any given time? Is it maybe we are being taught to ignore these signals?

He's right about addictive foods like processed sugars and the combination of salt, fat, sugar, but he's definitely wrong about grains, legumes and tubers. A boiled potato is about as unprocessed as you can get, and it's calorie density is 1/10th of cold-pressed oils. Try eating boiled potato without salt or fat and see if you get addicted to that.

44 years old and what you would call a 'grazer'. Never really overeating, but constantly snacking- usually out of boredom. Now I see that this is potentially far worse than just eating 1 or 2 big meals and getting on with it, as my body never has a chance to rest and recover, it is constantly working and tiring itself out digesting food.

If All our world leaders have bad diets that’s bad 😂
I am a 56 year old Carnivore - female - 4+ years of Carnivore - the only thing that has made me sick are pharmaceutical products doctors give us like candies and also vaccines. I do not believe this about protein - I eat beef, eggs, lamb, bacon, some fish. Only protein then !! There are Carnivores that I follow who have only ate meat for 60+ years ...... I do respect you ---- but I truly feel that as a Dr you are wrong here.
