I'm sprucing up my dear departed mom's 1930 Singer machine and cabinet for sale. I used it to learn to sew on it over 60 yrs ago. I wanted to test sew with it to verify my claim that it's in perfect working order. I've used newer machines since, but forgot how to thread the bobbin shuttle on the old Singer. Golden! Thanks!.

Is that a standard bulb base or do you have to buy a Singer one, and in particular if you want an LED... I bought a Singer screw-in bulb and it was too small... It must be for a newer model.
@TheMasquerade17 күн бұрын
@@redoak3809 that is a singer bulb standard screw in base. It helps if you have the old bulb to compare it to the one you are buying. If you shop online, then make sure you search with the model and year of your machine.

Don’t you have to change the stitch length?
@TheMasquerade2 ай бұрын
There is no need to change the stitch length because the feed dogs are dropped down. You are in total control of the stitch length with how fast or slow you move the fabric in accordance with how fast or slow you run the machine.😉

@@TheMasquerade But how to make the one with 8 points instead of 4?
@TheMasquerade3 ай бұрын
@@digging4roots this does have 8 points. If you measure very carefully from the center out to the edges when marking your points, your project will come out with 8 identical points. Just give it a try. You'll see.😉

Is it still possible to buy a new shuttle and e tra bobbins? When threading my shuttle, the thread just keeps coming back up the slot.
@TheMasquerade3 ай бұрын
Yes, it's still possible to buy a new shuttle and extra bobbins. You might not need to though. When you pull the thread down the slot to the bottom point on the shuttle, make sure you give it a real tug - while holding your finger on the top of the bobbin in the shuttle so it doesn't spin. I have a couple shuttles that are fussy like this. Make sure the shuttle is very clean. If there is a bit of lint or thread caught inside, it will stop the thread from following the correct path. ;) Hope this helps!

I am here with a singer machine that I think is even older than yours. I am wondering if yours ties the stitch off for you or if you do that by hand?
@TheMasquerade4 ай бұрын
@@maesinger1444 none of the hand crank machines will tie the stitch off for you - unless it has a reverse lever. Mine does not. In order to "lock" the stitch at the beginning and end of each seam, I take 2 stitches, lift the presser foot, pull the work back to the beginning and stitch over those 2 stitches again - then keep on stitching to the end of the seam. Then once again, I pull the work to go back over the last 2 stitches If you don't like that method, then adjust your stitch length to be very short and then you don't need to "back tack" - the very short stitches won't pull out. Hope that helps! 😉
