Don’t you have to change the stitch length?
@TheMasqueradeАй бұрын
There is no need to change the stitch length because the feed dogs are dropped down. You are in total control of the stitch length with how fast or slow you move the fabric in accordance with how fast or slow you run the machine.😉

@TheMasquerade2 ай бұрын
@@digging4roots this does have 8 points. If you measure very carefully from the center out to the edges when marking your points, your project will come out with 8 identical points. Just give it a try. You'll see.😉

Is it still possible to buy a new shuttle and e tra bobbins? When threading my shuttle, the thread just keeps coming back up the slot.
@TheMasquerade2 ай бұрын
Yes, it's still possible to buy a new shuttle and extra bobbins. You might not need to though. When you pull the thread down the slot to the bottom point on the shuttle, make sure you give it a real tug - while holding your finger on the top of the bobbin in the shuttle so it doesn't spin. I have a couple shuttles that are fussy like this. Make sure the shuttle is very clean. If there is a bit of lint or thread caught inside, it will stop the thread from following the correct path. ;) Hope this helps!

I am here with a singer machine that I think is even older than yours. I am wondering if yours ties the stitch off for you or if you do that by hand?
@TheMasquerade3 ай бұрын
@@maesinger1444 none of the hand crank machines will tie the stitch off for you - unless it has a reverse lever. Mine does not. In order to "lock" the stitch at the beginning and end of each seam, I take 2 stitches, lift the presser foot, pull the work back to the beginning and stitch over those 2 stitches again - then keep on stitching to the end of the seam. Then once again, I pull the work to go back over the last 2 stitches If you don't like that method, then adjust your stitch length to be very short and then you don't need to "back tack" - the very short stitches won't pull out. Hope that helps! 😉

There is three ways we can guesstimate the approximate age of this Singer. Serial number, type of construction and the long bobbin winder. There is a small placard with a serial number on it in the front of the machine and you can see from singers own pages what year it was produced. What I could see it looked like *E432380 (might be wrong, my eyes are not good). Depending on the first letter with the coffin/casket type table I would guesstimate between 1924-1947, difficult to say without the first letter though. If we go with the long bobbin winder that it has attached to the front of it, then it is very possible that it was produced in the 19th century. I am not sure when they stopped producing the long bobbin versions for the modern round versions, but the long bobbin machines start from the 1850s. I might be wrong though, can anyone else see the serial number better?
@TheMasquerade4 ай бұрын
@@lenaevess this machine was manufactured in 1889. There is no letter prefix to the serial number 8667836. It also has a curvy "fiddle base" which only ran for a few years with the VS2 - changing to a rectangular base in 1891 - which also confirms this machine was manufactured before the 20th century.😉
