I rarely comment but have to on this vid. Incredibly well done, from informational overlays to panning shots, time invested in both the build but also editing. Well done man, seriously top tier 🙏🏼

How heavy is the top engine cover to get to the pistons? Is it possible to do work on pistons (just to replace rings on them) while the engine is on the car? Thank you for a great film.

Did you need to have the piston and rods balanced to your crank ? Or since it’s oem piston and rods you don’t need to ? So let’s say I reuse my crank but get new oem piston and or rods, shouldn’t I have them rebalanced ?

Appreciate the video. It’s helped inspire me to rebuild by 2002 5.3 out of my Yukon with 400k miles on it. I recently lost my father who I’ve rebuilt a few motors with since a young teen over the last 35 years. That took away some of my inspiration and confidence since my go to guy is no longer around. I’ve been looking through KZbin videos over the last week and have to say yours has given me the most confidence and inspiration. I’ve got the tools minus the ring grinder and I have the time. I just needed the inspiration and a few things covered to help me on this journey. Thank you for taking the time making and sharing this video.

i meant the plate will crack the new plate only uses 11ft pounds i usually just use a 1/2 impact rated harbor freight torque socket and just tighten it till its tight those bolts have thread lock on them from kit

It helps to teach people that 1st gear is moving most of the weight of the car. Once the momentum is rolling its much easier to shift the other gears, but 1st gear freaks people out and they assume all the other gears will be just as hard. _Ya just gotta get a feel for it._

Plastic piece goes in the hole first followed by the rod to make it lock in then you twist to attach to the other side of the rod to keep it from sliding out.

Thanks for this video ,, lots of information to take in ,, quick question ,, why did you take off and replace the timing gear on the crank ? Was it worn too much? Cause I am right there now ,, I am in the beginning stages of rebuilding ,, crank is back in bearings installed ,,cam's installed with new bearings,, ready to start installing the piston rings and pistons

Very weird your valves ran into the piston. I’ve ran a .600 lift cam with 20thou milled heads no issues

Keep doing the how-to videos with great explanations. For a person who analyzes everything it's really a great help. Also, sometimes when there are lots of different hoses etc things are a bit intimidating and it helps to get past that. Thanks so much.
