I know it’s a little late but diesel fuel works great for removing carbon and sludge. Fill up a pan and just use a brush to wipe it all away.

Normally, I avoid signing into EvilTube, but will when there's a good enough reason. This is one of those "good enough" reasons. Thumbs up for taking the time to get dirty and show us how well Dawn can work. Will be using it on my engine soon. Cheers

If you want a simple way to remove carbon or sludge from parts. Soak them for a couple days in ATF. Seems counter productive, but works great. Saves a whole lot of scraping and scrubbing.
