Nice! Can you provide the actual details on how you positioned the zip-tie on the striker. The video skips over this step. The video is kind of grainy on my end so I cant really see the detail on the zip-tie's position.
@straybenzes21 сағат бұрын
Yes, sorry, those were the early days of recording videos. I usually bend the zip tie piece into an L shape. The short leg I point up and that is the part that goes into the void in the striking plate where the door catch hits. The long leg of the tie is where I drill an 3mm (1/8") hole that the pop rivet goes into. Hopefully that helps a little more. Good luck!

@straybenzes3 күн бұрын
High idle only when it is cold? Hmm. Please check if your cold start solenoid valve is powered up all the time. That would be odd, but it is still possible. That is the blue plug/connector in on top and in front of the engine. Simple check would be to disconnecting it temporarilty to see if your high idling stops.

Yeah, that's never good. If it is messing up your idle then temporarily plugging that line should improve that. As for the line that it belongs to my guess would be the climate control vent control system. Do you notice any vent flaps upper, lower, center functioning properly ?

I have a w126 500SE. The car wouldn’t start, so I have just installed a new battery and it started great for the first few times. However it is now not starting again and the new battery has only been in the car a few days. I’m suspecting a faulty alternator. However the red battery light hasn’t come on in the dash? I’m going to jump start the car tomorrow and then disconnect the negative on the battery and see if the car stays on, hopefully ruling out a faulty alternator. But any other suggestions I could look at? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you
@straybenzes6 күн бұрын
When you say that it will not start does that mean that you turn the ignition key and it will not turn over? And when you jump the battery it will then crank, correct? If so, that is usually some current draw on the battery that exists at all times. The usual culprit is the automatic antenna in the trunk. To flush out if there is such false amperage draw take out one fuse at a time with the ignition totally off and all doors closed and no lights on. Take for instance fuse 15 that is providing power to the antenna among other things. Now put your multimeter into measuring amps (use the 10A one so you don't blow the lower Amp fuses) and connect to both legs of where the fuse sat. The moment you have more than a fractional Amp reading you will need to connect one device at a time to see which one is causing it. But that ultimately can drain a battery overnight if is bad enough. Good luck.
@BobbyDrives3 күн бұрын
@ thanks for the tip. I will try this out. It turns out that my negative post clamp on the battery is corroded/split/damaged, as it started up the other day after giving the negative wire a wiggle. So I am going to replace both clamps first and test it again. Another question. When my car is on, I’m getting 13.76v with the multimeter on the battery, with headlights on etc. is this okay? I did disconnect the negative terminal the other day whilst the car was on and it didn’t cut out. Therefore the alternator should be okay.

High idle issues can come from a faulty OVP (causes high idle above 1000rpm), vacuum leaks, unusual would be faulty start up cycle, or ECU. Sorry for not being able to narrow that down precisely.

Hello friend, greetings from Spain, with a 1990 560 SEL. The heating and air conditioning have always worked perfectly in these 12 years with the car. As you know, the 560 has a preheater as standard (I understand it is a thermal resistance type) that despite having cold antifreeze because you have just started the engine, if you select maximum heat in the climate control, hot air comes out almost instantly and yet you have the engine temperature completely cold. It's great. The fact is that yesterday, that option did not work for me nor the normal heating with the engine hot, only warm ambient air comes out. The air conditioning works well. I suspect that either the ECO push button or the other directional distribution buttons are failing or the temperature selector wheel itself does not order that valve to close the circuit more or less for more heat. Now that you explain those initial steps to review, I'm going to do it and in a few days I'll tell you. Thank you very much!!!
@straybenzes22 күн бұрын
The US version did not have that option. If it is electric then you can start tracing power to it. The temp dial is rock solid. I would look for the simple stuff first. The aux water pump behind the removable fire wall can sometime lock up and if you are unlucky they have been known to fry the controller. Good luck!
@rangeroverv8199122 күн бұрын
@straybenzes Thank you very much for your advice. I didn't know that in the USA there was no pre-heating option (I understand that mine must have one because as soon as I turn on the V8 in winter, after 15 seconds I have hot air and obviously it's not coming from the engine because it's not warmed up yet). I will investigate the power supply to the pump and valve. I must also say that my car doesn't have the famous additional programmable Webasto heater. That was optional on the 560.

I`m working on a SL 350 V8 and I have a problem with cylinder no 4. makes a ticking noise, something like the diesel injectors do when the copper seal goes bad. @straybenzes22 күн бұрын
You can use a strobe light to figure out if the dampener has an issue. Extreme misalignment is rare but possible. The other thing to look out for is to make sure each pulley is easy to spin. Unusual load can cause belt squealing.

The accessories were working fine, and the battery is brand new. After an hour, it started as usual. What could be the issue, and is there a video about it? Thanks for the videos.
@straybenzesАй бұрын
I could be wrong, but these are the symptoms of the starter contactor going bad. If that happens again take a multimeter and measure the voltage on the violet/white wire on the motor starter relay if it shows 12v when you have someone turn the ignition switch to start. If there is power the starter will need freshening up. If there is no voltage it can be the starter lockout switch attached to the tranny shifting mechanism. You will need to safely jack the car up to get to that stuff. Good luck.

It does not happen when shifting from Drive to Park, or from Park to Drive. And it doesn't happen all of the time. I was told it is vacuum-related and a standard transmission servicing won't solve it. Thank You!!

Hi @straybenzes, I have a 1991 300 CE 24v. It revs fine when it's cold, but when it gets hot, it starts hesitating and lacks power at low revs, although it drives fine at higher revs. Could this be the cause of the issue? I added fuel cleaner yesterday and drove for an hour, and the problem nearly went away. But when I started the car an hour later, the issue came back.
@straybenzesАй бұрын
Usually it is the other way around with the EHA aging it tends to cause stalls or no power when cold that gets better as the engine warms up. This could also be the idle mix screw needing adjustment. Did anyone mess with that lately?
@nicholasmablad2019Ай бұрын
@straybenzes I tried adjusting that, but it didn't make a difference-maybe I did something wrong. I'm experiencing a lot of misfiring, and when I press the accelerator halfway down, nothing happens right away. After a few seconds, the power kicks in again. I'm planning to check the fuel filter and pump maybe that's the issue. It's like I lose power if I press the pedal too hard or too quickly.
@straybenzesАй бұрын
@@nicholasmablad2019 yeah that does not sound good. If the idle mix adjustment does not alter engine rpm than there may be other things going on with the fuel system. Start from the tank all the way to the injection system. Measure fuel pressure and differential pressure while you are at it. If the car sat for a while make sure to check the tiny filter in the fual distributor fuel intake. Good luck.
