I like this version because they all look and sound young, like in their late teens early 20’s (I think Buddy is supposed to be like 21 when we first meet him).

I saw this production twice when it moved to NY from DC, and four more times when it moved to L.A. Each performance was better than the previous one. If not the best Broadway show ever, it's at least the best conceived Broadway show ever. Brilliant. There were elements in this production that were better than the original 1971 production.

Ann Blyth also appeared in an episode of The Twilight Zone called Queen of the Nile where she played an immortal movie star. She's still alive today and doing well at age 94.

Lora Lee evolved her performance in this number and added funny nuances and dead-pan delivery that was quite funny. She was the first person I've seen playing this role who brought out Sally's quirkiness to the hilt. There's another clip of this song on youtube filmed later in its run that shows Lora nailing it.

I love the movie Mildred Pierce & how evil Vita was, but I also remember the Hostess Commercials with Ann Blyth with the selection of Hostess Cuocakes, which sponsored I believe it's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. This clip was too funny.

I saw this production of "Follies" at the Kennedy Center; it exceeded my expectations, and I had expected the utmost. I've never been so thankful in my life that I had opera glasses with me as I was when Linda Lavin sang "Broadway Baby". Her face was a theater in itself. (The only smudge on this epic canvas was Regine as Solange; her age really told against her, and she couldn't remember the lyrics to "Ah, Paris!"). At intermission, an attractive, middle-aged lady sitting on my right struck up a conversation with me. "You're obviously into this", she said. "I enjoy seeing things I love with people who are as enthusiastic about them as I am." I told her I had driven down from York, Pennsylvania to see it. "I've got you beat", she smiled. "I flew in from Denver."

I love Designing Women, but I can't comment Charlene's rants. Her little speeches are corny and dull. So I don't watch them. She's all uppity because she is poor.

I love Linda, but I find this to be a bit bizarre. Her attempted sexiness is kinda pathetic. Maybe that was the idea? In any case, it didn't work. And to take the medley aspect of it away always works against it. I can understand why she left/was replaced.

Rula Lenska is a British actress. She mainly appears in British stage and television productions, but is known in the United States for a series of commercials for Alberto VO5 hairspray in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Ann Blyth was known to me for her singing in MGM extravanganza movies like 'The Great Caruso,' 'Student Prince' and 'Kismet.' Jean Smart is (smart), but Charlene was a damned fool..... as if someone only knew her for Pierce and cupcakes. Viva Ann!
