man you have a bad typo. in attr create you type _name both times. but one time it should be _type.

would just adding the transformation AFTER applying the noise have the same effect?
@Terranimator5 ай бұрын
Hi sikliztaibunch! You have a good point, in this particular case it would work! But there are cases where we don't have the option like using when using cached geometry.
@sikliztailbunch5 ай бұрын
@@Terranimator Yeah. In Houdini, it´s always good to know workarounds. I am sure there are plenty of usecases for your method. But I guess, I would have just use a timeshift/timewarp then and wired those "fixed" attrib values back in later like in that entagma tutorial with colored sand grains that show the logo at the end of the sim. I am sure you know what one I am referring to.

I think another way you can get a very accurate result is to use the CONVEX DECOMPOSITION node on the collider geometry and reduce the Max. Concavity settings to a very low value

Very nice, but I have one question (I'm a beginner to Houdini). Let's say I wanted to keep the base of the grid flat and just raise the "surface". Is there an easy way to do that? I tried extruding so that I have a second "layer" and applying the wrangle to the top face only, but it still distorts the part underneath.

Yep. In Maya you just hold D and V to snap to a point and you are DONE. Houdini is a shit modeling tool for anything other than procedural stuff. Just kidding! Right click the transform and select pivot mode, or shift + " , or insert key will do the trick. This tutorial really should have covered this, but he gave a great way to do it with exact numbers.
