I totally agree with you on the swing out unit! I have a Saris unit for my Wrangler and it makes it so much easier widen going biking. It is also very useful with just a storage rack on there when we go on the beach fishing or camping.

I dig the setup. Nice work! A heater that shares the vehicle's fuel source is a solid idea. In one of your camping videos you didn't sleep well because the FDU was not level. Look into getting leveling ramps or blocks to help mitigate this problem.

Love it. I have a Kuat that tilts back. It works so j can open the hatch if the model Y but you have to climb over it. And i take it off after using because my dog can’t jump over it. I wish I hit the swingout

Hell, I'm halfway there already. I was a vandweller for 6 years. I've got 610 watts of solar on the roof, 300w inverter, dc compressor fridge. I used to have full cabinets inside, but I just pulled that out days ago to make room for bike storage inside. When you live in a subsidized senior apartment (as I do now), they don't let you store your bicycle in your apartment. So, I'll be storing them full-time in my minivan. (Camouflaged by a bunch of fake trash bags, taped to a tarp.) I would charge my electric bike batteries from the solar, except it's bad for Lithium Ion batteries to be charged if they are too hot or too cold. My "house battery" is Lithium Iron Phosphate, which handles the heat much better.

taken. In a perfect world I would put my bikes on the outside with that cool rack but bikes on the outside stresses me out mostly because of thieves. I did recently downsize my van, and every size van has its advantages at times. Ideally I would go on my summer holiday with road bikes, mountain bikes and a bmx but 5 bikes for two people in one small van is complicated

How did you tap into your gas tank for the heater? Did you already have an aux plug coming out of the fuel pump or did you go another route?

You drill a hole in the top of the fuel sender unit, then the tank fitting screws down into this. The fuel line will then run to its own filter, before running to the pump and then onto the heater itself. A small van like this only needs a 2kw diesel heater

The huge advantage of a hatch. Open it when it's raining and you have a place to do shit while not getting rained on. I went from an outback to a Van and have missed the hatch.
