I agree that Joker has been historically queercoded but I find this specific aspect of his characterization to be massively different across his many iterations. Different authors just don't always highlight it in a way that everyone, even queer people, may always resonate with or clearly catch on. There's also the optics of having the Joker, a good villan! but one of most infamous oned, be your gay representation. I find him to be one of those cases where it's best if he stays mostly ambiguous, maybe specially so with anything relating to his sexuality. Besides, despite his relationship with Batman as an actual romantic pairing... I say this a DC fan who hasn't spent any time indulging in that ship but I find the idea honestly repelling? There's just too much baggage there for that to ever work out in any way. It's still relevant to bring up their dynamic in a conversation about Joker's queercoding, but theyjust not one to actually want to wish to ever see come to fruition in canon

I just don't even understand why there needs to be a debate considering there are so many versions of the same character there no longer is a single canon. The jocker could easily be canonically all of those things since the canon already has so many versions of him. There could even be a universe where the Joker is in a poly relationship with Harley and batman and it wouldn't be less consistent with canon than the universe where he literally rips his face off and sews it back up again

I’d say most joker iterations are depicted as bisexual his love for Batman goes unspoken and even if him and Harley in most continuities is heavily toxic in his own twisted way joker does truly love Harley a little but hey it depends on what continuity your looking at normally like in “the Batman 2004” and telltale he actually loves Harley and Batman both in other continuities such as btas and the Arkham games his love for Harley is surface level and his deep rooted love is for Batman

Well Conrad Veidt whoes appearance in The Man Who Laughs, as you said, influenced the creation of the character, was very probably bisexual, so why not The Joker ? Also, it seems very likely Cesar Romero, who was the very first actor to play him, was gay too. It might explain why he was never really interested in Harley, who was both very bright and very cute

im not sure about the other renditions of the characters, however in The Dark Knight he is most certainly not queer coded, he has a message and view he wants to proof, ''their morals, their codes, its a bad joke, dropped at the first sign of trouble, I'll show you when the ships are down these civilized people will eat each other. And in the film it establishes that The Joker can't understand the fact that this ''Batman'' truly is inccoruptable. Which is why he wants to do this song and dance forever, his way of thinking will be proven right at some point all he has to do is break the Bat. Not to kill him mind you, Not sure how people view this version of the character as queer at all, its basic movie logic and once you retrace these steps from a non queer view it becomes all to clear that this rendition is not queer at all.

Now I think joker being gay is cool, if there is no Harley Quinn. Cause Harley Quinn has too much character development for Joker
