Really great video, sounds so good. What mics were you using on mock and snare? Looks like an sm57 on snare? Also is that a sensitone snare? Great stuff

Those sE8's will soon be the new standard for sdc's, they sound so KM84-ish for a small fraction of the price, what an amazing mic! Said that, c-2's must be an industrial mistake, it's the price of a good burger, there's some gear that are just too good for its price, like c-2's or superlux hd681.

the lesson here kids: be a great musician with a well selected/adjusted instrument in a decent room, stop caring about recording gear so much.

You really are, man. Idk what your aspirations are, but it seems you can play just about anything, and at the highest levels. If you’re aiming for arenas/world tours, you’ve got the goods. If you’re happy being a local legend, that’s cool too! I’ll just keep watching and learning.

C214's are hella underrated OH mics IMO. Obv it always just depends on the song, drums/cymbals, player etc, but they've worked super well for me in the past. I've used them in a few different configurations, but I've found (as long as you want a wide sound) set them up as a spaced pair, but the trick for me is angling them inwards on about a 19 to 33 degree angle. It helps them sound a bit smoother, and fills in the center image, and gives a nice crosstalk between the mics. If you try it let me know. Also, I have two pairs of older 414's, and the 214's are a lot more hyped in the high end basically. They also sound a little bit more scoopy, making the low end seem a bit more beefy.

@@DonalBowens Hey! NP. Yeah the Angled Spaced Pair thing is just a suggestion, and they will still sound great in other positions, but I just found out one day when I was working on a Punk Record that having them as a typical spaced pair, but angled in instead of straight down worked really well. So just think of it like the hat side mic will be slightly facing across towards the ride side, and vice versa. It helps with giving you that wide cymbal spread still, and keeps the Cymbals, and Toms isolated to to the L/R Speakers, but it helps the Snare, and Kick sit a lot more solid/even in the center if you know what I mean. You can also play with the angles, but I personally don't like to go to crazy. So like if 45 degrees is right in between straight up, and straight down, realistically Id say about 24-30 degrees is a nice sweet spot, because too much, and the L/R mics will almost be picking up the opposite sides more hah. Also, another thing I've found with this technique is that usually when I have just a spaced pair facing straight down, Im usually more straight over the Cymbals, with this technique I kind of come in from the sides a bit more to where Im actually out farther with the mics. I still have them lined up almost the same, but probably a bit more towards the center. basically in line with the edges of the crashes rather than right on top, or like just in between the crash, and rack tom, and crash, and ride on the other side. Also forgot to say, I also physically move the the mics farther out on each side to make up for the fact that they are angled, and looking across the kit, because say I had a spaced pair looking down straight above each crash cymbal (assuming you had a typical 2 crash setup) If I started to then angle them from there, pretty quickly they would each almost be looking at opposite sides without picking up whats on there own side. Sorry if I sound like a crazy person rambling hah. So basically I just go pretty wide, maybe something like about a foot or two outwards from the crash's on each side. Put it this way. So the rack tom side mic will be sort of right in between the Crash, and the Rack tom, but a couple feet out so it's sort of looking across them, and the Floor tom side will be placed basically in line with the other side. but sort of in between the Crash, and the ride. Hope that all makes sense hah. I might have a Pic of my last setup if you wanna send me your Email Address. Also if you wanna hear the last time I used it just go to Spotify, and search Awkward AC-House Arrest is the Album name, or on KZbin music search Awkward AC-House Arrest, and then you'll see a video called Code Yellow, click on the band name(under the video), and it will lead you to the House Arrest album. For some reason on KZbin Music the Album doesnt just show up when you search the band, or album, it's weird. I remember the session still, and after we were playing back drums, I pulled up just the OH's, and the band was like that's such a dope drum sound, and I was like guys, that's literally just the OH mics, and they were like holy shit, really hah. That's what I loved about it though, because they were still super articulate, cutting, and wide cymbals, but it just captures more of the kit as a whole, so it's like you can kind of use that as your starting point, and then use the close mics to fill it in. Otherwise I usually just think of my overheads as mostly cymbal mics, and have to rely more on the close mics for the main sound.

Coming from a studio point of view, we use 2 very good kits, and can deffo say this, the bit yall are missing here is this, The behringers if mic'ing a whole kit up, dare i say it are better, much better ! when you mic the rest of the kit up you will get that warmth and frequency from the other mics that you say the SEs have, but when you want to add in a nice toppy glassyness from the over heads the behringer's are perfect, the Se8s in the mix with the rest of the kit mic's will sound more muddy compared to the behringer's. its the extended HI's we are after here not the bottom end, and the behringer's give exactly that. perfect, So remember this..... you can take off some treble and hi end from your cymbals and snare in the mix with the behringer's if needed, but you cant add the hi end in the mix using the SE's because it wont be there ! ! ! there are more than a few things behringer have got right, and these are somewhere near the top, non of this undervaluing them with " they are good for the price" crap, its not because they are cheap ! but its because they are very good at doing the job they were designed to do, nothing to do with the price, the fact they are cheap is a bonus. now on saying that, if you want to use just them for the whole kit with no other mics on the kit then ok the SEs will be better for obvious reasons.
