The problem with MMA is that the techniques are for fighting someone in the same weight class. I have only been in a few fights and they were always guys who were much bigger than me and formidable. I would not feel comfortable using MMA technique with a 6 ft 4 athletic guy weighing 220 who has a violent or reckless attitude. Safer to apply Gracie Combatives class in this situation with one exception. Instead of trying to finish the fight the emphasis is on disengaging if possible only finish the fight if you can't disengage for some reason. BJJ and wrestling have kept me safe with dangerous hombres. Also stay fit and think tactically. Avoiding danger is the best way to stay safe. Most people do not have time to be elite grapplers but they do have time to practice 36 techniques. For this reason, I rate Gracie Combatives pretty high for the average person.

such a good sweep when they are being heavy on the X. I have done really really sloppy versions of this, but these details should help me to dial it in more.

This is the white version of history. The real history is that the Brazilians letting us hide at their place after we got beat up and escaped by the European military. We developed this style while they let us stay there and feed us. We would play with their kids while also trying to prepare ourselves to go fight the European military’s again. The white version of history tries to erase this part of it. We let them have Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for free. We didn’t make them sell their kids or steal their land for it.

Oss! Position before submission! There's a reason IBJJF doesn't penalize for stalling in the mount. Takes a lot of skill to be able to hold it too. Valeu professor!

The biggest diff in my experience is the "Gracie Combatives program". It's a white belt to blue belt program that teaches you positions and techniques (often gi-less) to not get knocked out by strikes. I know even every Gracie gym is different but from what I understand the spirit of this at least is shared amongst all GJJ gyms, which is why GJJ is ranked higher than BJJ in self defense system rankings.

I love all the options that lapel grip gives you. I just taught the baseball bat choke with lapel to our competition kids. The brabo and paper cutter are great additions.
