I’m disappointed with the lack of takedowns in jiu jitsu. I think it should be practiced 50/50. I’m impressed with how much you can do in jiu jitsu though.

Professor, that's why the first thing I try to do is take the sleeves of the opponent's kimono instead of putting my hands on the knee.

I just can't stand primates pretending to be masters just because they trained 5 years. F*** that!!! That being said I prefer to have a gun. I've known nothing but fake masters, since I was 4. To be fare, I had one real instructor, how ever I had to move to another country after 3 week of training. I was 13 then...Now I'm 43, white belt in almost 10 f**** styles. Disappointments in Martial Arts??? I know something about that. Most martial arts teachers out there are not prepared to teach. The entire world is like that now. Most singers can't sing, most actors can't act, most doctors are butchers and most martial arts instructors are not worthy of the BLACK BELT.

can't get passed all the guard pulls during the sparring rounds ... as I always view in terms of real world and having trained Judo 81' - mid 90's. but, the commitment to art is commendable.

People who try to 'make' Aikido work are just trying to use the jujitsu moves they see in the art as a form of stand up jujitsu or wrestling. This is where they go wrong and why they come up short. This kind of person is like a barista who doesn't drink coffee, they emulate the movements and steps in creation, but anyone who drinks their coffee can taste the difference and know something important is missing. Aikido comes from Jujitsu, but the magic of the art is in it's application of aiki, which is unseen to most and can be counter intuitive to learn. It is the aiki that allows the smaller weaker person to defend themselves at deficit. I did a year or so in Seidokan Aikido in the 90's, and I still can't beat a girl in a slap boxing match or wrestle someone down. Over the years however I've successfully defended myself against assaults from behind (3) and against 2 (win), 3 (win), and 4 (draw) opponents at once. They weren't training for the octagon, but they were former wrestlers, street fighters, and former army infantrymen. That's all with empty hands. With the weapons it only gets better. Back in my day weapons were integrated, not a separate class, as I hear many schools do nowadays. We did not spar, and did plenty of meditation and visualization. Only a few times did we do randori, and then only for a few seconds at a time.

Good advice. Had many disappointments mainly with unreliable bjj coaches over the last 10 years who did not deliver what was promised to get you to join the club. Also did judo for more than 10 years before that without issues.

Another form of dissolution is BJJ when you’ve been training somewhere for years and someone new who comes in and be friends the head instructor and then within a year or two later out ranks you not saying they don’t deserve the rank. It’s just come on. I’ve been here longer put in more work why was my promoted before them?

Great video. I really appreciate the honesty. Listening to your thoughts really resonated with me not just in jiu jitsu but in other areas of my life. Its another reminder that we are all human and life is fleeting. At the end of the day, we should be mindful of placing such expectations on our heroes.

Is it true that you went completely crazy because Stuart Cooper had a thing with a female employee of yours?
@roydean
@roydean 2 күн бұрын
Lol. Exactly the opposite. I'm the only one who kept a cool head. They both went absolutely crazy trying to destroy me. Stuart was simply not himself, badly addicted to benzodiazepines, and was deceived by the woman. I have all the receipts, including messages of Stuart begging me to get him his drugs or he was going to die. Both people were vengeful, and irrational, simply because I held her accountable for her unprofessional behavior, and not just with Stuart. Stuart and I are all good now. He's apologized a million times, feels genuine remorse for his actions, and realizes he was not himself. During that time, he wrote hundreds of posts defaming me with lies, and I wrote a single post defending myself. You can be the judge of who lost their cool. 😎

Mr. Roy Dean, I hope to get your opinion on this because you've inspired me to do both Aikido and Bjj 10 years ago. I also got your full DVD set back in the day. IMHO I think Aikido is the defense to your weapon. For example, If you have a knife and a larger person grabs your arms, you can use shihonage to get out. Aikido is the defense to the weapon, the weapon itself is for the offense (which is a different art or aikiboken training etc). Hence, if an Aikido person spar with another person without a weapon is it basically useless. So Aikido is not a disappointment, all you really need is Shihonage as Shioda Gozo have said reflecting on O sensei's teachings. Aikido is budo, budo is professional, which means the person should always be armed and even ready to fight till the death (Like police or samurai). Having a knife or a deadly weapon should be standard for Budo. That is martial art, it is for killing and defense against multiple opponents in any situation. I don't think Aikido is delusional and hopefully the need for Aikido will diminish over time and the use for it will be obsolete. What do you think?
@roydean
@roydean 13 сағат бұрын
That's a very interesting perspective, I appreciate you sharing it. Aikido definitely makes more sense when dealing with weapons, whether a sword, staff, or knife. Aikido is specialized, and can be valuable in the right context.

@@roydean Thank you sir for hearing me out. As a very small guy (5'3, 130 bls), the quickest way for me to become dangerous is to pick up a knife and master shihonage. As opposed to spending 10 years to get a black belt in BJJ. If BJJ blue belt thinks submitting an unarmed Aikido 6th dan master means BJJ is an extremely superior martial art, then I think that is a form of delusion. In a way, it is a form of bullying and Aikidoka just take insult because it is not worth killing someone for.
