The last thing minecraft needs is more cosmetic variants of functionally equivalent blocks. The inventory issues hurt and drive players towards rushing vital inventory infrastructure (which happens to lie at the end of progression. Minecraft is in dire need of an overhaul and consolidation, and the good people at Mojang, in the course of this, need to learn to start dropping versions of the game and translating those resources to the core development. There is a total failure of metagame theory going on, so hire a game theorist who specializes in metagames to come and help. There is a total failure to deliver interesting additions or changes fast enough, so redistribute your resources to the core dev team. Additionally, there is a huge need to begin balancing out all these additions (seeing as whenever they add structures they don't consider how dense the world is getting with structures) and reconsidering who Minecraft's main audience is at this point. If their main audience is kids, they need to "shoot above their heads", as in, market the game as being for older audiences than that because children strive to mature and develop. Minecraft fails to do this, by adding kitch and babysitting content (stuff that could be for six year olds) instead of interesting, more artistic, fantastic, or authentic content (something that could be given to a 10-12 year olds). However, I think it's safe to say that minecraft has a much more broad appeal than just children, a huge proportion of people playing are elder teens and adults, and they are losing that demo. They need to make all the babysitting settings (in your face advice about how to play the game, crafting menu, etc.) something you turn ON for your young kid. Moreover, players need to be able to exercise an enormous amount more agency over what happens in their world. You should be able to customize structure rarity, what structures spawn, what kind of biomes generate and from different instantiations of those biomes across versions, with geological biases (ie, age of the world, sea level, humidity, etc.). It also seems to me after playing a pre-1.7.3 version, that we went backwards in terms of game balance and combat complexity for a good while. It might pay dividends to take some inspiration from the resource-intensive nature of pre-1.7.3 game and take a more short-term approach to things like armor and tools, and healing, in addition to reforming the food system with an in-depth cooking system. Finally, if Mojang decides to keep their current "set it and forget it" approach to armor, then they need to significantly lengthen the progression and make the monsters you commonly encounter every day scale much harder in terms of difficulty, through their attribute system. In my eyes, there is an enormous amount of work to do to just get started with getting this game back on track.

They're good in their own unique ways. Linearity gives the developer more freedom to create controlled but more involved and interesting levels, while open-endedness sacrifices this for more player freedom. One is not better than the othe.r

I remember when hunger was introduced- i hated it. I hated that i had to modify my worlds to account for it... But i did get used to it Enchanting and the leveling system is when Minecraft finally lost me for years. I always hated the risk of losing items upon death, so this extra level of fearing death made me step back for a long time I'm coming back around, but that's in spite of the systems in place, not because of them

I think the golden age just depends on when you started playing and what you were doing. I used to play on a cracked Minecraft server called Canadian Killer Craft. It had factions and the power struggle was real. I was in a faction called Amity and I just remember building a whole community with members of the faction. Thinking about the simplicity of the game and the time digging, surviving, hiding, looting, battling, and building on the server is my golden age.

Simplicity isn't "good" tf did you do with less choices??? Unless you're completely uncreative and suck at not being distracted which is an opinion, and not Minecraft losing anything, cause it's better then almost every previous version 1 block at a time

One thing i realised is how Minecraft is not even it's own unique,stand-alone game on itself anymore and it's now pretty much like any other video game out there. But Minecraft doesn't need spin-offs.... it's already complete on its own.

Im gonna have to disagree. Everything will get boring after a while, its just a fact of life. Minecraft has to adapt they don't really have a choice or they will fade into obscurity. However, I do agree that the game has become to "progression based" over time. You always want the next best item, I feel like mojang needs to add more items that improve the deepness of the sandbox aspect without over complicating the game to the casual player.

The tutorial in Minecraft is SO frustrating. I exclusively play with a controller on PC because Mouse and keyboard has always hurt my wrist. The tutorial does not recognize controllers, so it forces you to temporarily switch to a mouse and keyboard to get rid of it.

For me, Minecraft is ultimately a sandbox. As much as I like to see the big gamechanging updates, its nice to get updates that add to the volume of things to play around with. The huge palate we have makes so many awesome builds possible, and honestly I cant think of a single thing they've added that has detracted from the overall experience (phantoms being an exception.) I think that we're getting to the point where the devs are focused on expanding the world and making it feel alive, rather than messing with parts of the core gameplay loop.

I exclusively play 1.12 for the biome customization (e.g. infinite oceans with sparse islands). I feel like given the subject matter it's worth noting that *for me* Minecraft peaked at 1.12. I'll never understand why they removed the in-depth World customization. I definitely want to play the current version (whatever that is, 1.21 or something) but I want a pc that can handle shaders that really do the new terrain generation justice.

I'm so much of a progression-based person that it's kind of become an inside joke in my friend group; if I join a new server, I can guarantee you that if a bunch of people all come to spawn and welcome me and start showering netherite on me, I wil be like, "No, stop, I don't want it, I want to get it myself!".

I realized what I don't like about the modden minecraft. It's the lack of choice. Nowdays, there is mandatory and rigid progression to the game. And before, if you wanted any complex progression, you could download a mod. In this way, the game was more of an engine, a framework, where you could run your own adventures with the themes of your choosing. Want magic? Have magic. Want tech? Have tech. Want explotation? Have exploration. Want horror? Have horror. You did not just build in game, you could build the game. Then, they added more content, they added the standard of what should and shouldn't be in the game, and sometimes, how exactly it should be in the game. Funnily enough, my very first disappointment was when they have added bees, because that killed the mod "forestry", one of the older mods, exactly in the way they now have limited everything else. By making it a part of the game, they have removed the choice. And the mods became less of "what do you want to do?" and more of "how do you want to achieve the same goal over and over again?". Also, it seems that every player has their own "cutoff point", where the game becomes too complex and/or streamlined.
