As an extra class HAM , I always carry an old radio with me, a Morse code key and a solar cell and batteries and a simple wire antenna wound on a spool…just in case…all in a bag…just in case…you never know…always smart to be prepared…I grew up in the days of analog phones…it’s possible to rig a simple phone but they’ve ripped down so many POTS lines unfortunately…I’ll look for one of these to add to my kit…

The price makes it scary

It's a pretty simple fix. Just take the steering handle apart and switch the cables.. I have already replaced the steering cables once with aftermarket bike cables and keep a spare set on the kayak. I was lucky the first one broke at the launch, but sometimes i motor over 12 miles from the launch, and i would rather not lose my rudder lol.
