Interesting that Mercury also had the Meteor, which is about the same size. My Dad had one and I loved it (esp the tail lights) but you don’t see much of them. Sad

Those are five 271HP 64 Comets, Doug Nash had another ... how many more did they build?
@zchris87v802 жыл бұрын
For some reason I feel like I remember reading 8 or 9, most “performance” ones sold to the public were K-code with I believe a slightly higher powered (not HiPo) 289 with a 4 barrel from the mustang.
@tomp16122 жыл бұрын
@@zchris87v80 Yeah a 210hp Mustang engine with a larger carb. In NHRA SuperStock the 64 Comet gets rated more horsepower than the 64 1/2 Mustang 289-4V.
@zchris87v802 жыл бұрын
@@tomp1612 if it ever arrives, I bought one of those K-code calientes (taking months to ship it here). Do you have any other info on the HiPo’s? I’ve heard none were ever built, and there’s a McCoy Mercury A/FX for sale saying it’s one of 22 Ford built for the circuit that year, but I believe those were 427 cars.
@tomp16122 жыл бұрын
@@zchris87v80 I'm hardly the expert but i'd guess the 427 AFX Comets started as HiPo ones to get the 9" rear ends, as did Thuinderbolts. Sure not much info on the HiPo Comets, I'd guess most of it died along with Bill Stroppe and Fran Hernandez.

You have to love the music they put in this video. Up beat and selling cars. What a time. My first car in 1974 was 1964 comet Caliente. Bought it from a family friend who was a body man and worked on car frames. This he bought new and in 1970 rebuilt and modified the 289 in it. It was a fun car to drive even with bias tires. This car with it 3 bedroom apartment trunk took me and friend on many hacking and sling trips.

My dad had one just like this he pushed it to 170 mp/h down the highway with a 390 he always talks about how fast that car was he seen the car started rotting and decided to cut it up for parts only to discover the car was mint besides the one quarter and fender he nearly cried when he found that out and still regrets cutting that car up but he kept the motor, he lost his 428 CJ that was for his 69 428 CJ Cyclone in a fire but were rebuilding the 390 for the 69 Cyclone CJ and he also restored a 68 Cyclone in the mid 2000s, he just gave it to me for my 16 birthday can't wait to get his back on the road it will be badass father and son driving around together in a 68 and 69 Cyclone
