The thing about this thought experiment is that different spin-offs have different ideas for characters (Example: Boo for the Mario Party games, but King Boo for the Mario Kart games) So what I think would be the perfect 20 character roster is to have a selection of characters that would fit with all spin-offs regardless of its differences and preferences I'd go with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario, Koopa, Daisy, Waluigi, Rosalina, Toadette, Bowser Jr, Birdo, Diddy Kong, Shy Guy, Kamek, Pauline, and Nabbit

Wow, the rare John Oliver hater! Tbh, i can understand all your rankings but i find myself wholeheartedly disagreeing with a lot of them, esp Duncan and Chang, to me their appeal was precisely in their miserable bastardness and insanity respectively. The insane ending of season 3 is a lot to swallow, I'll grant, the writers room really were swinging for the fences, but I feel like by that point in season 3, we're no longer being asked to consider Greendale as even a potentially plausible place where anyone could study, it is simply a place where TV plots get to happen. Like if it could happen on a Tv screen, it can happen at Greendale. The goal isnt realism, it is to see how far the writers can push this thing before it collpases under itself. At least, for me, approaching season 3 like that makes it a lot more enjoyable than trying to look for a secret hidden rationality other than the rationality of the story teller

Yeah that’s a fair way to see season 3 but I definitely wasn’t ready for that because the notion of the college functioning as a college never really felt so thoroughly disrespected up to that point, even with the paintball 2 parter that was about ownership of greendale, the Chang dynasty arc just felt like it wasn’t about the college anymore like even if I wasn’t being asked to I still liked to see the show as about the college experience and while it did feel like that’s what the study group were fighting for, the circumstances that allowed Chang to take over and continue for any amount of time never clicked with me, but like I said his seasons 5 and 6 character was a lot more my speed, and yeah while I don’t think I would’ve liked any British actors portrayal of Duncan, John oliver absolutely made him worse lol

it's not, they made a big fuss in the last week of the old version that they wouldn't be available after, you cant even get platinum coins from playing anymore so i think they've sort of severed the link to my nintendo unfortunately

I personally don't want obscure Mario characters in Mario Kart. No Paper Mario. No Mario RPG. To me, they would feel extremely put of place. Also, No guest characters in the next game. This is Mario Kart, not Nintendo Kart.

@bengrainger2887 At least it was done to give more hype for the next couple tours because the older costumes weren't as creative as the newer ones so they needed original ones as well. But imagine this being the permanent roster: Baby Mario Baby Peach Baby Daisy Koopa Shy Guy Dry Bones Mario Peach Daisy Toad Toadette Yoshi Bowser Donkey Kong Diddy Kong Metal Mario Peachette Dry Bowser Musician Mario Pauline 💀💀💀 At least they had Diddy Kong who had been excluded for so long and Pauline but like come on 💀💀💀

that's a good mix, and i appreciate that you understood what i meant by the tour characters still feeling like newcomers! i do really hope cappy/florian/any other platformer characters can get in at some point but i think especially for new ones it'd be cooler for them to have home stage inclusive dlc pack sort of things

I think it wouldve been nice for king bomb-omb and king boo to be the unlockable for completing the entire ds mission mode, and the wii ones you suggested could be rewards for beating the "online missions" as a wii mission mode

I think Luigi circuit is a bit hard for banana also if there’s any GBA Bowser Castle that needs a comeback, it’s bowser castle 4, it got a massive glowup in tour, why else would they put such high effort in the track And their not bringing back 8DX Track retros

i looked at luigi circuit the same way as royal raceway like with more modern controls im sure it'll round itself down difficulty wise, i would love to see 4 back im just not sure how it's laps would work if it's based on the tour version like it does feel a bit too long for 3 laps and too short for 3 segments and im not sure if nintendo even remember doing a 2 lap track, the best way they could do it is by removing the glider ramp to the alternative path in the second half and instead have you u-turn just before the finish line and then do the track backwards starting with the alt path and that can be 3 segments

I like this one, probably my ideal roster as well. Everyone having a pairing or at least similar character makes sense. Rosalina always felt kinda awkward as the "third wheel" princess, so having Pauline as another human woman to round them out is great, since Mario and the other guys have had 4 basically since Mario Party 3. Then you have two Toad options in Toad/Toadette, two dinos in Yoshi/Birdo, two 'Bowsers' in Bowser/Jr., and two Kongs in DK and Diddy. Then no individual character feels out of place, since they always have a buddy. Meanwhile you can flex those other 4 slots however you want for minions. I think Boo (or King Boo) and some variant of Koopa Troopa (including Dry Bones) are always a safe bet, and then they have 2 more slots to use however they want with whatever random minion of the week they feel like propping up. But either way this is just a starting point, so those random niche picks might not even have to count towards those 4 enemy slots you mentioned, and instead they could just be specific newcomer slots. Either way I think you nailed it with the baseline 'named characters'.

Gadd (Never has made it into anything as far as I know but should) Funky Kong Dry Bowser Toadette After finishing the video, I gotta say, while I don't fully agree I also would not complain over that roster honestly. It's like an 8/10 in my books so well beyond exceptional. Plus it has Birdo so I am not going to complain anyways.

yeah i think there's definitely a distinction to be made between characters that should appear in small rosters compared to big rosters. king boo probably should be in over boo at every chance but it's just kind of the fact that he isnt and boo appears more often that makes me not really consider it

They can use Boo in some games & King Boo in others within the same system (like Mario Sluggers & Mario Party 8).

Here's what I would change about every Mario Spinoff roster: (Adding characters without removing any is not allowed except for Mario Kart 64 because I have 2 characters in mind that make perfect sense but I probably shouldn't remove anyone from that roster) Super Mario Kart: replace Dk Jr with Tatanga, he'd be a fun addition that makes sense considering the time period. Mario Kart 64: Just add Koopa Troopa and Kamek. Mario Kart Super Circuit: Replace Toad with Koopa Troopa because I think Toad is the lamer character. Mario Kart Double Dash: Replace Toadette with Toadsworth because he's an actual character, replace Paratroopa with a Toady , and replace the babies with Prof. E Gadd and a Luigi's Mansion ghost. Mario Kart DS: Replace ROB with Cackletta because MKDS is a handheld game, and so is Cackletta, so I think she'd be a neat addition Mario Kart Wii: Replace the babies with Shy Guy, Prof E. Gadd, Dixie Kong, and Kamek, replace Dry Bowser with Hammer Bro, replace Toadette with Toadsworth, and I may get flamed for this, but I'm replacing Funky Kong with King K. Rool. Mario Kart 7: Replace Metal Mario and Lakitu with Waluigi and Fawful Mario Kart 8: Where to start here? Well, first off, I can't be bothered to do anything after the initial release in 2014. My problem with minions in general is that I prefer unique characters much more than generic ones (like goombas, koopas, boos and maybe even toad), for example, id prefer captain toad over regular toad and king boo over regular boo, the thing is minions doo need representation but there arent much unique variants that i know of, maybe goombella or koops from paper mario but they arent that popular

Honestly my favourite rosters are the ones with an unusual character 5 and 6 have koopa kid, 8 has blooper, 9 has kemek, 10 has spike and Super is just full of interesting additions. Tho being honest Jamboree's is slightly disappointing since i cant play as my boye Dry bones

Great video!! I wanna try my own too! 1. Mario 2. Luigi 3. Peach 4. Daisy 5. Rosalina The staples, these 5 should just be in everything. 6. Toad 7. Toadette 8. Wario 9. Waluigi 10. Yoshi 11. Birdo 12. Donkey Kong Not as high priority as the first 5, but really just should be staples. 13. Bowser 14. Bowser Jr 15. Shy Guy 16. Petey Piranha 17. A slot for a boss fight from the newest Mario game at the time (ie: Madame Broode from Odyssey, Motley Bossblob from 3D World, etc.) Villains, gotta have them! I think Shy Guy is the perfect enemy that everyone likes seeing and can really just fit into any spin off. I also personally think that with how the Mario series always introduces new characters, so I think adding on a new character as a temporary addition is very nice (such as King Boo in Mario Kart and Honey Queen in Mario Kart 7, even if shes not a villain) 18-19. Going further with my point on 17, I'd actually say to have these slots be dedicated to new characters too. Like.. Cappy and an NPC resident from one of the kingdoms in Odyssey! Or heck, even the Talking Flower from Wonder! 20. Vivian This might be really out there, but I think there needs to be a day that an RPG character comes to the Mario spin offs tbh. And with her popularity and unique design, I think Vivian's the perfect choice

id love to see vivian in something! although it'll probably only happen if her "species" of ghost is brought into 3d first because i just cant see them being bothered with 3d modelling her unless it can be done more easily you know, i think it's always good to represent the more modern games even if they're not going to be relevant forever and even though id probably put them in the 21st and beyond slot i can definitely see the appeal of always having a slot reserved, who knows nabbit might not be relevant for much longer and in that scenario i think id just have him be the revolving door slot
