I live in East Lealman, North St. Pete, we bugged in, lost power for four days and running water over night,, not much damage in my neighborhood, we had to put our fence back up and ran the generators, but fortunately and thank God that was it. A friend of mine who lives in St. Pete, did not fare as well. He had lots of big trees to cut up.

Suggestion for a fun project for the Florida brush ,mission specific. Purchase a hard used Mollie ii backpack, remove the Mollie and trim down the straps. I've done this for hunting in Florida and Pennsylvania. Nice presentation

I like that idea!

Shoulda flew that poncho, perfect timing to show putting the bag to use, then you coulda shown off the gear and kept everything dry. Nice setup overall though, got a simple BIC in there? simple flame can save your life and weighs absolutely nothing

I probably should've, but I didn't think of it at the time. Yes, I showed one in the kit, and I always have one on me in an Exotac fireSLEEVE.

Hurricain bugout bag.... not a single bit of waterproofing in sight; on your property or not🤦♂️. Stuff happens, floods come with hurricaines. By having your gear properly waterproofed, that bag can be a ready made floatation device.
@theaveragewoodsman60022 ай бұрын
I have rain gear and a military poncho. What "waterproofing" do I need? I just want to stay dry until I get to my bug out location. Which I did. I was born in Florida and have lived here most of my life. I've experienced plenty of hurricanes.
@jeremymoses74012 ай бұрын
@@theaveragewoodsman6002 ziplocks, trashbags, any of your choice of commercial drybags would work. Anything that absolutely cannot or you would not want wet should be waterproofed; medical, fire, clothes, bedding, etc. Rain gear and poncho are fine, but they wont protect your gear from emersion or submersion (getting caught in flash flooding). Toss your pack in a lake as is and haul it out and youll see what im getting at if you find yourself caught in a wash or fall into the water. As to your rain gear, are they up to date on proper care and maintenance? When was the last time you reapplied the coating to that poncho? I have that poncho and i like it a lot, but its not the old school rubberized military ones; that coating wears out and you will get wet.

Did you forget your kitchen sink? The only things that you need are a fixed knife, a stainless water bottle, stainless cup, and a twig stove 4x 6-mils garbage bags and naybe a military poncho. Your Bushcraft skills will do the rest. Please you are going to survive not going to war.
@theaveragewoodsman60022 ай бұрын
First off, I had all of those items in the kit. I'm not trying to "survive." I want to get to my bug out location as fast as possible. I have a lightweight, comfortable sleep system. That's really my only addition.
@nickcasolino89032 ай бұрын
I can thrive with just a knife. You need an entire house. Just your gun weighs at least 7 to 8lb plus your metal shell., you must be carrying at least 10 to 15 lb of weapons. I can carry a slingbow that is light weight and lethal and best of all QUIET. With all that gear, your pack must weigh close to 70lb. Your pack will kill you before you can get out of way from danger. A pack should weigh at least 20lb to a max 30 lb not more. You know absolutely Nothing about Survival aka Emergency Preparedness. 🤣🤣🤣 🤣 🤣
@nickcasolino89032 ай бұрын
@@theaveragewoodsman6002I see that you didn't like my respond. A backpack should weigh 20 to 30lb full. Your gun weighs at least 8lb plus another 5lb of ammos. Your pack most weigh at least 70lb. In face of a danger, (flash floods, wildfires, predators) you are not going very far before the weight of your pack will kill you. You don't believe me? For self-defense and hunting, I carry a slingbow 40lb draw weight. It's a Chief A.J. slingbow. It's light, lethal and quiet. My PKS kephart knife is all I need to thrive. I can make a fire and bring down a 4" thick tree with it. I carry a M-60 Czech Backpack . In it, i carry my emergency space blanket/tarp, a roll of jute twine for firemaking and everything else, a roll of bankline , 42" x 42" bandana orange.and my military Canteen Cooking set. Maybe, a poncho if you need it, the emergency blanket should do the job. That's all that you need for a Bug-Out-Bag during a Hurricane and others weather related disasters. Your pack should weigh less than 30lb. The rest is between the 2 ears - knowledge of Bushcraft. Get on with the program, you are not going to war.

Frankly, you're both goofy. (1) If you're just sprinting to a bug out shelter anyway, pack light and store what you need there. Especially the rifle; that's just dead weight and liable to get you shot by another Florida Man. (2) A hurricane is not the time to bug out with bare minimalist kit. Try surviving with just a knife, water bottle and cup, stove and contractor bags when your fully-stocked SUV is 50 yards away, not in a life-threatening emergency. First aid is a must. A bit of light, prepackaged food is good, especially if you didn't bring antidiarrheal medicine.
@fiathedge17952 ай бұрын
I’m not going to bug out in the weather during a hurricane with a bug out bag. You can’t even set up a shelter/tent. You should have jumped in the car and come to Atlanta. You cant fish and start fires in a hurricane. That’s crazy.

😅😅😅😅😅😅 with a pack like that you will drown. Remember, the storm surge is at least 15 feet high. Make sure that you have made pre-funeral arrangements.
@theaveragewoodsman60022 ай бұрын
You clearly don't know anything about hurricanes or storm surges. They don't travel 15 feet across the whole state. My bug out location is inland, 140 feet above sea level.
@nickcasolino89032 ай бұрын
I see that you don't know anything about survival. I also I see that you can't read. Do you know what it is a storm surge? The hurricane winds blow the ocean waters inland. The water could rise 15 feet to 20 feet of water like a tsunami. Oops, you don't know what's a tsunami either.
