I had a subscription to Vogue and several other magazines as an aspiring fashion photographer over 20 years ago. Honestly it was for the photography. I didn't pay any attention to what they were selling as far as ideas. I did plenty of shoots back then and had a good amount of my work published but I'm sad to see the direction the publication has gone aside from any artwork. They have such a political agenda now that it's hard to focus on what the magazine was created for. There is always some scandal and some views they shouldn't be pushing. I can't even pick up a Vogue magazine any more because I feel they are more about controversy than beauty. I have to slightly agree with some of the other comments made here that change is something we have to embrace at it's own rate and we have to understand that as recent as the early 80's there were still racial incidents so when you're running something as large as Vogue you have to play it safe to some degree. I think the bold move with the jeans isn't so bold compared to the white washing etc that you mention that had less kick back. I think that if there were racial motivations with the sumo photos etc it didn't register yet because African American integration into high fashion occured a bit before Asian American and you didn't have Asians pushing back at perceived racism in print quite yet. We still don't for the most part. Asians don't speak up for equality in fashion so much. They begin to speak up when hate crimes are commited against them. More logical based reactions as a whole as compared to overall equality. Asians choose to form communities within communities for reasons such as cultural and language barriers which African Americans don't have as much or wish to act upon. Within high fashion you have a certain way that people carry themself. It's kind of like the uppity kids at a school. There really is little difference. As much as I wanted to believe that it wasn't just an exclusive club that most wish themself to be worthy of but every person next to them believes every other of them isn't, it is. Sure, I've met plenty of caring, sweet models but the industry molds you into into something where you must fight to survive. More than anything I just feel a loss of something that represented the highest form of it's industry. It lost it's vision.

I do have a few pieces from Daniel Lee BV and the pieces are so fabulous, and the fabrics so expensive. I do agree there were many trendy pieces, but overall we will look at certain items as super timeless in the future. I think buying fashion is never predictable, and one can only but what we like and can afford. Can't wait to see Daniel at Burberry.

Great to hear about you once again, just a small comment regarding Phoebe: Isn't it 100% confirmed she is currently setting up her own namesake brand with LVMH backing her up to some extent? Probably doesn't have time for Dior - or do you think she could do both?
@SlavicSnowWhite
@SlavicSnowWhite Жыл бұрын
Her comeback to fashion was announced almost 2 years ago and she hasn’t produced anything significant since then. I think it is a completely valid option, plus she had very close ties with LVMH already.

@@SlavicSnowWhite Ah, I see - understood. Well, lets see. I suppose since economy isn't doing too well right now, it could be bit of a risky time to start her own brand. I thought it was a sure thing, but apparently not - but yeah, Phoebe at Dior would be cool too

I used to work at bottega when this happened, and I can testify the toxic environment was so bad it got down to the boutiques, at least in Milan. Regarding the firing, you should also go look into any sort of parties he may or may not have thrown in Detroit, inviting people who should have not be there.

I personally really liked the Balenciaga x adidas and especially the Gucci x adidas collab. For me it represents the ultimate combination of high and low, sacred and profane, and most of the individual items from both of those collabs were, in my opinion, designed with great taste. I guess I kind of have a soft spot for adidas collabs in general but in my opinion both of those ended up really really good, much better than i.e. the Hacker Project.

Thank you for sharing this. I really was curious to know what an actual Ukrainian thought about the Vogue shoot. I was really disappointed by the reaction of people, especially of people here in America. I was also very confused, because the Zelensky's have been on the cover of multiple magazines by now, so why is this one different? I think just because it was a fashion magazine and the pictures were stylized.

Why do ukranian authorities want to abolish by force the russian language of some ukranians? Eight years of resisting sounds like plenty of time to get the message. Why not abolish english? Those are the governments USING ukrainian blood to print money (they were bankrupt march 31 because the taxes they collect are only enough to pay interest on their national debt, so now they invent some more every few months to spread around the world and seem powerful). Zelensky is just starstruck with the VIP treatment.

I want to preface this by saying I don't mean any ill will, I like your videos :). When you read the part about white refugees being taken in over brown and black refugees he is taking about this: (The articles wont link so I have to type the titles out, hopefully you can find them) Non-white refugees fleeing Ukraine detained in EU immigration facilities - Independent End ‘double standards’ on refugees, UN expert urges Poland - Aljazeera UN admits refugees have faced racism at Ukraine borders - Independent I believe you misinterpreted his point. His point wasn't that white ukranians shouldn't receive help (of course they should) but that _their POC counterparts should receive equal help_ instead of discrimination.
@SlavicSnowWhite
@SlavicSnowWhite Жыл бұрын
I absolutely understand what you mean, and I am sorry for every person who experienced any type of racial discrimination in their life. That’s awful, and absolutely should not be happening. It is a pity that some non-white refugees faced issue entering the EU, but it is mostly attributed to legal reasoning. If there was no legal issue crossing the border for Ukrainian passport holders (we have no visa policy with the EU since ages), for non-Ukrainian and non-EU passport holders there was an issue as they had to be admitted for a visa. Regarding Adam’s point, I genuinely don’t see what it has to do with anything he wrote about in the post. It’s just as if the text is AI generated from all trendy things to be mad about. Just to reiterate, I am in no way diminishing the struggle of non-white refugees, and countries that accept them have a lot of growth to do, but there should be no competition between the struggle. Whatever colour your skin is, when your home gets bombed, you bleed red.

i understand your perspective, but i still think the photoshoot is weird and bizarre. my country was at war a few years ago and if the president and his wife were posing for the cameras for some fashion magazine while people were being murdered and huge numbers of people were leaving the country- i can't imagine anyone here would be defending it and/or praising it. the photos being shot on digital and edited so weirdly also added to the whole weirdness. i felt so strange when i saw those photos for the first time. vogue is always hit-or-miss (mostly miss) with their political photoshoots that i have no idea why are they still doing them since they always receive backlash for their bare minimum "activism"
@SlavicSnowWhite
@SlavicSnowWhite Жыл бұрын
i get what you are saying, but i guess we are just happy for any kind of exposure, even as primitive and shallow as a Vogue photoshoot. the funniest thing is that it caused such a backlash of westerners “defending” us from Vogue, as if any of these people actually took part in protests to support Ukraine or donated to Ukrainian army 🤷🏼‍♀️ i understand how confusing this photoshoot might be for the people outside Ukraine, but i hope that the main outtake that people will take from this video is that we are grateful to have you talk about Ukraine, because 8 years of silence have already killed way too many Ukrainians 💔

The photo shoot reminds me of Hunter Biden's "home videos" where he's parading around nude and smoking crack. Hunter will be the next "model" chosen to represent America on the Vogue cover. Luckily here in the US, our First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, is right by our president's side, ready to either hold him up and help him put on his jacket, due to his old-age feebleness. I salute all the world's "First Ladies" for their courage and patriotism. Imelda Marcos and her 3000 pairs of shoes also comes to mind.
