What a lovely moth! You are so skilled even with a new medium! 😮 When you said Flat, it reminded me that gouache was first used for commercial story boarding because it was flat! Think 50's and 60's Advertising Firms! Atomic Cats?? 🎉🎉🎉

Thank you, that's really nice of you! 🥰 Yes, gouache was a popular commercial medium back in the day. I'm glad I finally tried it! I love the matte quality! 😃🎨🌟

All of the links to the products don’t work for me. I can’t find a bottle of gesso that looks like the one in the video. I tried another brand and it didn’t cover well. I’d really love to find the one used here

Sorry to hear the links didn't work for you! I just clicked them all and they worked for me. If you wouldn't mind letting me know what device and browser you're using, I can try to look into it. You could also try the links again in case it was a temporary glitch. The gesso I used is called "Liquitex Professional Gesso". The bottle I have is a few years old and they changed the label design, so the new labels look slightly different than the one in the video. Hope this helps! 😃

Another wonderful video, Thaneeya. I really enjoyed watching you use gouache paints to paint this beautiful moth. The colours turned out to be very bright & vibrant. You do such a great job with your presentation & I loved the top you wore too, with your yellow beret. I will look forward to your next video. Xx🙂👍👋👋

I love the vibrancy of the moth. I have only used gouache on 2 paintings (realistic landscapes). For gouache I definitely prefer flats, filberts and angled brushes. I love watercolor, so obviously I use round brushes for this media. I enjoy the ability to add layers of opaque color, with the gouache. Both mediums are fun. I also take my time with details in all my artwork. My realistic watercolor, gouache and colored pencil take many, many hours to just make one creation..I don’t mind it.👩‍🎨🎨🥰

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences with gouache and watercolor! 😊 Both mediums are so fun to work with. I'm enjoying getting to know gouache better. It's nice to hear from someone who also spends many, many hours on a single artwork and enjoys getting immersed in the details. Happy Art-Making!! 😃🎨💕

Another lovely video and beautiful painting.. I've downloaded the moth pages to try. I coloured a few of your mandalas yesterday and loved every minute! Gave both my alcohol and water based markers a good workout. Hope you managed to recover the black tube. And yes i'd love you to paint an axolotl please 🙂

Super job! You learned a lot with just one painting which is helpful to everyone unfamiliar with gouache. Holbein brand is one of the best and yes, newer supplies have a creamier consistency. I agree and prefer trying different styles and techniques. Quite often I use colored pencils for details over the gouache. Also, I'm curious if anyone else experienced an excessive amount of intrusive ads throughout this video... they showed up around every 4 minutes (or less!) which really rattles my ADHD focus issues.
@thaneeya
@thaneeya 7 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment! 😃 I appreciate the confirmation that newer gouache has a creamier consistency. I bought a watercolor medium to see if that helps with the consistency (instead of just adding water). I'm really enjoying gouache so far! Can't wait to try more artworks with colored pencils on top, too! I think that might be a good technique for adding fur... 😍

I love using gouache because of the velvety finish and the way you can reactivate it for touch-ups and blending. I do recommend using a fixative to seal it once it's done because I've had to fix paintings that were accidently smudged due to water spills. Oops. Please do more gouache videos!
@thaneeya
@thaneeya 7 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip about fixative! 💖 I bought a jar of Dorland's Wax Medium to seal it but haven't tried it yet. I'm happy to hear that you'd like me to make more gouache videos, because I'm having so much with this medium!! 😍

@@thaneeya I've used Dorland's Wax on some pieces but it does leave a slight residue. Buffing it with a soft cloth helps. Try testing it out on scraps first.

Good video! Hopefully this brings some awareness to the lightfastness issue. Colored pencils are also usually fugitive unless a lightfast brand is bought, unfortunately. :( I feel a little bad I fell out of love with my 70+ Copics/refills and put them in storage a decade ago, but in the end I'm *much* happier with watercolor. It's a bit more of a learning curve, but with the right materials (like cotton paper) it comes out on top every time.
