It looks like you had some great time outside, for grouse I carry a slingshot, pellet gun is too heavy, not powerful enough (unless you hit head/neck) and still too loud for my liking. Maybe we'll cross paths in the forest one of these days. New sub 👍
@NonTypicalLife8 ай бұрын
Thank you. Anytime spent in the bush is a success. No other place like it. I have been thinking about the slingshot too. I would need a bunch of practice.

Thanks for taking me along! It has been many years since I rode a horse in the mountains of Alberta, maybe someday I'll get back there for another ride.
@NonTypicalLife9 ай бұрын
Thankyou for watching. It was an incredible experience. I really hope you do make it back out there. The mountains can do amazing things for your heart and mind. We were just back there again 2 weeks ago and did it all on foot.
@nathanadrian77979 ай бұрын
@@NonTypicalLife Did you get your sheep? I live in the mountains of southern BC, but would like to revisit the area I rode near Cochrane, we had a lot of fun riding in the Wiaporious River area.
@NonTypicalLife9 ай бұрын
@@nathanadrian7797no luck that time. But I fully intend to try again. I was told, on average, the year you start sheep hunting is the year your ram was born. Only 8 more years of trying.

Great video. Tough little guys to hunt - great job. The meat is the best - just too bad you don't get that much off one. Good luck this year in the upcoming season.

For the 6.5 I shoot the Winchester Deer Season XP 125gr. According to the charts it carries speed and energy really well and costs significantly less. It worked on a whitetail last fall just fine too. I will be trying it out again this fall.

Thats awesome. The actual harvest should always come second to going out on and adventure and learning something new. Good luck. We are headed for our first sheep hunt this year. I am just focusing on being in good shape and having fun camping on a mountain for a week.

Great couple days in the woods. Only two more months and we get started again. I chuckled those moose make a lot of noise. Gives you time to get ready.

Great video I enjoyed this. Did you harvest these bulls on crown land? What dates were you guys hunting? Congrats.
@NonTypicalLife11 ай бұрын
Thankyou. Yes we were on crown land. We usually go the last part of November hoping for snow and cold weather to get the elk herded up again. That year just happened to be unusually warm.

Looks a little past shooting light for Alberta
@NonTypicalLife2 жыл бұрын
The camera light makes it appear that way. I can assure you it was literally 5 minutes before because I was watching the clock as I watched my bull walk away and i couldn't shoot again and feared he would hit the tree line. Luckily he made it to about 400 yards and laid down. Thats where I learned I was getting almost no expansion with the bullets I was using. clean finger size hole through both lungs at 85 yards. I can't prove it though you just have to trust me.

I have never seen better video of bears on baits. This should be mandatory watching for anyone hunting Alberta or Saskatchewan black bears. Darcy knows his stuff evidenced by the fact he did not get excited by that little gaffer who came right up to him. You guys showed the sort of patience that guides hope for, but see seldom. There was no bear there that I would have shot knowing the area well from having lived here for a total of close to 20 years. Just a word to the wise if you shoot a bear with a great blaze like the big guy in the trailcam pics. I shot a little sow like that 10 years ago. If you skin it down the belly side like one usually would you split that blaze into at least 3 parts. Those bears need to be skinned starting down the back to keep the blaze intact. Then ask your mother, or wife, or signficant other for enough money for a full body mount which that blaze deserves.
@NonTypicalLife2 жыл бұрын
Thankyou very much. Darcy definitely knows what he’s doing. That would be a dream to have a full mount with a blaze like that. Permission or not I don’t know that my bank account could handle that.

All I got to say is I ain't never seen someone cut a deer in half to haul out. I get the two poles but why couldn't you just tied two legs to one and two to the other.
@NonTypicalLife2 жыл бұрын
250lb deer seemed a bit much to carry. it was a couple miles of muskeg back to the truck. I have since upgraded my pack and graduated to the quarter and haul out on my back method.

Well Georgie.... ...thinking 99.9% of all deer killers would never have the issue of having to haul out an amazing animal like these guys had to deep down some powerline in the middle of nowhere, these guys are cool, but don't act like it! George, I wonder, how did you get your monster buck out of the woods...? Please enlighten us...

Great hunt story. Two nice bulls. Wish we could have seen the encounters though. BTW, the buck shot was a clear miss. Camera setup and rifle are diff angles . the impact was far left. Plus I don't think he would still have sex on his mind with a bullet in him. Lol. Great that you checked for blood though.
