Remember that it won't work automatically if using Proxmox Firewall. This is because the dhcp request is blocked by the firewall. The official wiki page "Setup Simple Zone With SNAT and DHCP" shows how to solve the problem.

Thanks for the summary. I'm just getting back into Ceph after replacing an old NAS with Ceph cluster at home. It can be a bit difficult tracking which information is up to date. Until now i had no idea crimson was intending to replace bluestore!

The simple explanation is: running a computer inside a computer like it was a program. It has its advantages, when you install something on one virtual computer, it can’t affect another virtual computer. Another great one Is, when you need to restart to apply changes to a freshly installed program on a virtual computer you only have to restart one virtual computer and not another one.

Can I retrofit an older 45-Drive Chassis with these new motherboards, or will I also need to upgrade the PSU too in order to support the more power-hungry CPUs/MBs?

what about making a motherboard that has a slot for the 16 drive bay riser slot that card goes in then the riser card attaches to the drive cage drive cage just slots into that card boom power and data no cables do that with everything only cable would be from motherboard to powersupply one cable for it all or a group boundle that you can put in a area that can be only for cables no more cables

Is there a reason why you are not using the LSI P411W-32P, which would give you even more throughput?
@cje7004Ай бұрын
would I be right in thinking this could drive 8x NVME drives? therefore reduce the number of HBAs in this F16 system from 4 down to 2? how does it give it more throughput?
@inflatablemicrowave8187Ай бұрын
Possibly because the firmware for them is awful and causes huge amounts of issues. You can find a thread filled with agony about this card on the level1techs forums. Most likely though its because it supports sas, sata, u.2, and u.3 through the same backplane, as it is an HBA rather than a pcie switch. They also have no need for a pcie switch with the amount of lanes needed, and do not require any lane switching. If they wanted to go the route of the switch card, they could have instead gone straight from the board for far cheaper and at much higher speeds with no reliability issues.

I'm new to Proxmox stuff so pls tell me - if I want to set up SDN on my node and my 'real' local network is 172.12.12.X (I mean in this network work all my computers / prinetrs etc.) then do I need to create subnet ( like here 10:50 ) 172.12.12.0/24 also?
@45DrivesАй бұрын
If you are only planning on having a single network that is bridged directly to your LAN, it really doesn't make sense to use SDN. You should just use the standard bridge tied directly to the physical network interface from your Proxmox VE server that connects back to your switching. SDN is beneficial if you have multiple VLANs you wish to create for different VMs/containers or if you want to create a NAT'd network that can get out to the internet but nothing can get in to the devices on it, etc.
