This is great! Makes total sense separating compute and storage. I would really like to see a 2U version of this. I find that by using larger fans can reduce the decibels and improve airflow while offering more expansion capabilities. My experience is that you typical run out of power first before filling a rack making 1U servers not as ideal as 2U for what you get.

I have no use for it. I can't afford it. But I need it!

The next non-storage box you should do is a GPU box, but instead of the standard GPU form factor, create a box that can handle the Nvidia gpu boards that use the SXM2 connector. A box that has as many as those cards you can fit would be a great competitor to the big boys AI servers.

why there was no word about rack rails? are boot drives hot swappable? But I like where you are going in your development

I love this and I need a 4 node version.

This would be great as a proxmox cluster. Personally an option for case/psu would be better could make a low power efficient cluster for homelab. A bracket for 2 SSDs for Ceph pool.

What's the underlying platform for the motherboard? Is this off-the-shelf Supermicro? Could admins expect a relatively standard IPMI? Who is maintaining and releasing the firmware updates?

Did I just see a serial and a VGA port on it..!? Retro.
@Jamesaepp2 ай бұрын
VGA + Serial is not retro in datacenter environments. KVMs are already ridiculously expensive, so using VGA makes economic sense. Serial is such a rock dumb simple and reliable interface - it has a lot of use cases whether that's connecting to more legacy equipment or for emergency use. Windows Server for example still has a feature called EMS which allows for an administrator to connect to a Windows Server via a serial/RS232 connection and perform commands right at the kernel level. Linux distros have the ability to present a TTY just like in the old days over a serial line too.

As the other person mentioned list out the base price! ☝️🤦♂️ I don’t want to submit a online form for a quote! 👎 Even better offer DIY packages for the average consumer to build and go. Maybe all I want is the case & PSU? Maybe the MOBO, Case, PSU? Also just an option to have a plain black cover without all the crap stuck on? Ultimately maybe coming out with a true NAS build that actually competes with QNAP / Synology but with better hardware at a price point that isn’t crazy stupid that only enterprise can buy?!? 🙄
