Hi JP. I love the videos on the progress of the small barn conversion. On the subject of the diesel heater, I have bought a unit on the strength of this video, and I am going to run the exhaust through a diesel car EGR heat exchanger which will heat water that can be pumped though a radiator. That way I can use the heat from the exhaust which would otherwise be wasted. One issue I have encountered concerns the 12V transformer. I have bought the same unit as yours and it clearly says that it is set to 110V from the factory, and needs to be changed to 230V. I can see WHERE this is done but I cannot see HOW to change it. I can't see a switch in the hole in the side of the unit. Did you have the same issue? Any advice from you or any other watchers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and keep the videos coming. Love to Gracie & Bo. Colin

@Smallbarnworkshop6 күн бұрын
Hi. I have never seen any condensation. The tin roof isn’t the outer roof. A few years ago - before I was on KZbin - I over boarded the tin with a frame and the cement panels. So, in essence there is an Insulated air gap. Regards JP

Hey John. Maybe you can be of some help. I seem to have an issue with my new lift. In the absence of any manual/instruction, I have difficulties to determine if I am not operating it properly, if I am missing something I should set or if I have a faulty unit. I haven’t actually installed it nor used it and just testing its operation before installing it. My issue lies with the red micro adjustment ring on the top : when turning it, nothing happens. It turns freely and indefinitely and doesn’t seem to make any adjustments. Maybe you can give me your feedback from your usage. What is supposed to happen when turning this micro adjustment ring (mechanically speaking)? Is it operating/turning the central rod? The rod only turns while turning the main crank. My understanding is that the ref bottom adjustment plate allows to fine tune the tightness of the bolt on the central rod to set the stiffness of the crank. When fiddling with it it doesn’t seem to affect the functioning on the micro adjustment ring. Am I missing something? Thx in advance for your feedback
@Smallbarnworkshop7 күн бұрын
Hi. I will pop out to the workshop tomorrow and give you a proper answer. It’s bizarre I use it all the time but not I’m not in front of it I can’t 100% think of how it works 😂 Regards JP
@fredericcaunant7 күн бұрын
@@Smallbarnworkshop Thx John but I have actually resolved my issue… well sort of. It has to do with the amount of friction, which can be adjusted with the two Allen screws under the ring. Mine were too tight. But then it brings another potential issue which I’ll have to assess once I’ll have installed and used it. I suppose those screws need to be tight enough so the lift doesn’t lower during use, but as soon as they are tightened then the micro adjustment doesn’t work anymore. Not only that, those two screws feel totally loose as soon as the tightness is not preventing the ring to work. Feels like a vicious circle. I can see them progressively come out completely with the vibration which in turn will prevent the lift fr keeping its height, like I’ve seem some user are experiencing. I might experiment Thread seal lock glue to prevent them moving. « Resolving » this issue also brought another wonder. What is the clearance adjustment about then?
@Smallbarnworkshop7 күн бұрын
Hi. Yes those grub screws are a bit fiddly. mine are just tight enough to let the assembly move. I have run mine for hours and hours now and have had no issue with the cutter lowering during use. It is a good bit of kit for the money but instructions would be a great help. Regards JP

2 suggestions, they both can be done with a 3d printer (if you don’t have one, some libraries do): there are multiple smaller inserts for the device to guide the air in the bin so the dust doesn’t clog up the filter. There are even bigger ones that introduce cyclone functionality if you want a fancier one. Just print them out and clip them in. The same goes for adapting the device to machines. I designed fitting adapters myself (and published when i liked them), but the usual sites like thingiverse are full of them. 🙂👍

Hi John. I've just received a diesel heater and I ordered a 3m extension for the exhaust. This ensures the significant exhaust heat remains in the garage (the end of the exhaust can be hand held as it's lost so much heat over the 3m or so). You could even coil the extension and add a fan. Thanks for the plaster board suggestion as I've been puzzling what to use.

Might be worth seeing how much of the workings you can inspect. In one of Joshua de lyle’s videos he had a different make and found the fuel line was crushed, also passed through sharp openings in the metal casing, and if he’d screwed on the air filter in the predrilled location, a screw would have hit the fuel line inside 😳😳

You might want to create a gap between that new insulation and the corrugated roof. The roof will generate a lot of condensation and you don’t want that drenching the insulation maybe consider fitting a vapour barrier sheet first then the insulation? Love the channel and always great to see sharp tools being used properly. 👍
@Smallbarnworkshop12 күн бұрын
HI. Thank you for the comment. The sloped but will have 75mm insulation in a 100mm cavity, so there is a small air gap there. The flat bit will have a much larger air gap. So, it is still very much a cold roof construction. The tin roof is battened and covered over with the CP corrugated board. So there is a further air gap above the tin. Working with sharp tools is always a pleasure. Regards JP
