In test flight the bots are usually close and predictable vs real match conditions where your enemies are further away or flying at angles that are difficult for your radar to deal with. People defeating your missiles is common and expected, especially if you're taking launches that give them plenty of time to react and evade. Knowing when is a good time to launch is a skill that takes time to develop, same for learning to evade enemy missiles (especially evading multiple missiles at the same time). Agree with your last point, the learning curve is very steep if you don't have experience. Once you get past it and start doing well it's more fun, but I'm not going to deny that there's a lot of dying in the process. The game completely lacks any kind of meaningful tutorial system.

@jaek_898 I was trying various situations against bots. Long range, mid range etc. For some reason it always locks. Angle also never was a problem. Maybe it is bugged. I get the point with angles. But this is going to be very painful learning because the life span for someone like me is few seconds in battle when I am trying to figure out hot to get that lock on. People defeating missiles. I think one of the biggest problem is that realistic battles allow 3rd person view. This should be locked for the cockpit. It would greatly change gameplay when people need to check surroundings properly. I know there are simulations, but those are too long and not many people play them. Not to mention that it would be even crazier since you really need to IFF 😁 Anyway I really appreciate your guide because it is a mess to understand how radar and targeting works. 👍 I will have to put some 100 death for learning 😅

Is your "cyclic switching" option turned on? TWS can also be a little buggy sometimes with targets that are just outside of scan range showing up on your TWS but not being able to be cycled to. In those cases it's beneficial to turn the cyclic switching option off and use the keybinds to manually move the radar cursor around

If you could record incidents like that and ping me in my discord with them it would be really helpful. A radar failling to pick up the target can be boiled down to 1) it's outside of your search area, or 2) your radar is unable to detect it because the target is in some kind of ground clutter or doppler filter, or 3) it's outside of your current range (the F-14's ACM only goes to 9km, or your range scale is set too low in search mode). For the phoenixes you can try to watch them in sensor view in replay mode, but usually phoenix misses are because they couldn't pull hard enough to hit or the target caused them to lose lock, intentionally or not. Radar is very confusing as it is and I'm sorry if i made it worse 😭

@@8OID8 short answer is you need a radar with pulse-doppler or MTI and you need the enemy to be flying towards you. Your enemy probably has a pulse-doppler radar.

@@yeetnoodle9668 when in ACM mode use the "change radar search mode" keybind. Not all radars can do it.

raid assessment mode, i believe the IRL purpose was to distinguish between multiple targets flying close together or something like that. It effectively works like a limited version of TWS.

They are very similar but not 100% identical. MIM-72 from what I understand is a little slower and less agile. The later variant has a smokeless motor and I think its seeker is better but don't quote me on that.

@@jaek_898 Thanks, I play the USA a fair bit so I see that weapon in the air defense units. I was appalled by the performance of the AIM-7C on the Demon, so your videos were very interesting.

@@fabrizioconza8716 arrow keys for cursor, numpad plus minus for tilt, and num5 for lock. I also have lock on mousehweel tilt but i dont use it when using these options

@@trashitty9854 if you're setting it with the ripple quantity keybind (not the spawn menu) and you're using the fire secondary weapons button and it's not working it could be bugged. I'll try to remember to test it when i get home from work today

@jaek_898 I got it to start working when I disable active weapon selector. Idk what that is but it's very annoying to have to disable it every time I want to use multiple bombs

@@trashitty9854 basically the "drop bomb series" keybind works with the bomb series you set before spawning in. The series quantity can not be changed mid flight and it ONLY works with weapon selection turned off. If you use the selected weapon mode secondary weapon ripple quantity and the fire secondary weapons keybind, you can set the quantity mid flight but it doesnt have the same options as the other method. Very confusing
