There is a legendary Yeoman Mechanic out there somewhere. It's got the addition of pliers, making it a 4-layer knife. That might well-be the plus ultra of SAKs.

Mr. Stewart thanks for this well made & interesting video, I have Subscribed to your channel. As an avid Victorinox collector I buy most of the special editions such as the Winter Magic series for their collectability and not for EDC. The 2023 Winter Magic Alox cadet was brilliant, one of the best ever (IMO 2nd in beautifully decorated scales design to the 2020 Pioneer X design) I bought the 2024 Winter Magic Spartan but quite frankly it is not exactly very exciting and its price by me locally of double that of a regular Spartan model is a bit steep, were it not a Limited Edition collectable I would not have bought it.

small tip, you have super thin creditcard size "fresnel lenses " to fit in a wallet etc etc. costs like a euro. magnification is 5x. good when you lose glasses, or fine print. and much more useful than a tiny lens.

@ronagoodwell2709 23 күн бұрын
@CyberBeep_kenshi Thanks but I already have a collection of smallish magnifying lenses, loupes, etc. I've had a few of the fresnel lenses. They're ok. But the idea of having the lens on a multi-tool is interesting to me. Purely for ease of access.

What a great EDC! I have no need for quick pocket access to a saw or pliers. But scissors? Yes. File? Yes. Screwdrivers? Yes. I had a newer Explorer with plus scales and the clear rimmed mag glass (not gray). I added one of the newer version saw-metal files to it to make a modern-day replica of this Reagan era classic!

The hole in one of the pivot pins is so you can tie a string to the knife and use it as a plum bob, the soldier used it for the firing angle when they used their rifle vith a special grenate launcher attachment the same as a modern mortar launcher.

I have a Victorinox Deluxe Tinker with that same symbol on the tang, with a bigger V on it and it was dated by Victorinox to be 92-05. Mine has a Parcel hook which from my research was added in 1991. Mine also has the round phillips. I had sent Mine in for warranty since 2 springs broke and they fixed it years ago, probably around year 2000. They still had original parts back then to fix it. I thought Mine was older, since my Dad said that he bought it shortly after I was born and I was born in 84. I wish they used different symbols to make it easier to tell the age. I probably was given the knife in 94, roughly. I had a Ranger with the same scales, with the Camping logo, but sadly my Brother lost his and told our parents that my Ranger was his. They took it from me.

Why did they call it the mountaineer? The only tool appropriate to the mountains is the one blade. I still take the German Army SAK to the field/mountains. I was given it when attending the German Bundeswehr Mountain School in the early 1980's and it's still going strong (although I have bought a backup since). My Grandfather served in the Italian Alpinis in WWI, and carried a SAK. He gave it to me in the 1960s. Unfortunately, it was lost before the 1980's.

I bought one of these radios used in 1975 for $75. It worked great, and CB radio was fun then. KTE-0697 is/was my CB call sign. Now I'm a ham operator, all the difference in the world.

Krw5353; my cb call sign. I think it was 5 bucks? I remember royce well and wanted one but couldn't afford it in 75. In 76, got a cobra. Heard all the operators talking from other countries but couldn't work them. So from my first good job, I saved up and bought a siltronix 1011"d". I was hooked. It taught me about the world of ham by listening to 10 which I knew nothing about and right away I went to work learning code and preparing for the tests, (5 back then),. Tests were a lot harder too. A lot of pressure, whew. You had to really want it and I did. Cheers.
