great info thnx............ however i would like to throw this out there............ you can call the local PD and ask if they have a DOT officer and if so get their number. typically they have to do so many inspection a month or 6 months to keep their certs thus you might have a better chance to get one.

Hello. I’m a disabled veteran and considering getting into hot shotting. I currently have a desk job with the state but sometimes struggle when dealing with people. I’m pretty sure I can cover the note on the truck and trailer but I’m sure there are other expenses to float for a while. How much cash would you recommend having on hand when you’re getting started?

You are right on! Over 25 years running my own outfit. Started with tow operation then hot shot and flatbed big trucks. If it ain’t in your blood don’t do it.! Over the road, pulling 20k , @ 75 mph , will first melt a dually transmission in short order. 6 to 10 grand to get back. After over 25+ 3500s I know a little bit. Cummins rarely quit. 10,000 on deck is max we accept on 40’ tandem dual. Forget all that hype advertisements put out. Wanna run heavy then go big truck. Scaled @ 80,000 run 75 or more all day for years. Coils and flat steel been everywhere on Freightshakers I ran.

How would you recommend someone who has a CDL for about 3yrs to get experience in hotshot. I do want to start up my own LLC, but i lack the experience in cargo tie down. I want to own my own truck and trailer, but I don't have the funds to buy out right. I would like to run local in Florida to have weekends off. I do know to get out of debt you need to run OTR.
@Happ1971Ай бұрын
Im full sending it. I want to travel... i have a cdl A... i bought a new truck and trailer out right at 53... just got my mc authority and dot.. insurance is fun... florida is ridiculous... even with a clean cdl... im trying to make it where all i have mainly is fuel and insurance as overhead.

I’ve been at my current job 7yrs. It started out really good but I’ve had a falling out with a fellow employee that the management won’t let me get away from and I’m wanting to get into hot shotting. I have enough credit to get a truck and probably a trailer. But I need to be put to work right away so I can at least pay for my truck and trailer every month. Basically I need to cover my bills at least. What should my game plan be ? I’m talkin pick up truck and trailer and possibly a wedge for cars.

The owner of the business opinion will say lease on but lets put it this way if leasing is so great why didn't the owner lease on in the first place? Bc people want freedom and want %100 profit instead of working for someone else. if you're dead set just set your authority and if you just wanna give it a try lease on
@jlovetheflash5371Ай бұрын
@@ohhman9400 when I started I had no idea leasing on was even an option. Especially in this freight environment and insurance cost leasing-on can be a great option. If I am charging a truck 15%. My companies profit is roughly 4-6% depending on their gross. The other percentage goes to a dispatcher (which they would have to find), a factoring company (they would have to sign a contract for), a ELD (which is another contract). The right company will also guarantee payment on every load you move, have insurance cost which will be roughly 50% of what a new authority would normally pay, and a fuel card that should provide a way better discount since they have multiple units. Now this is with the right company. Most brokers in this market won’t bring on new authorities. With all that being said I am not against full sending it with your own authority, but I would suggest that everyone who is trying out OTR trucking to lease-on first.

I’m kind of confused. I have a cdl. I am already enrolled in the clearinghouse. I just got my authority to run interstate and am going to be running non cdl box truck as an owner operator. Do I need to enroll in a random drug and alcohol consortium? Love your videos, I just can’t seem to find an exact answer. Thank you!
@jlovetheflash5371Ай бұрын
@@rottihavr1 if you are commercially driving and have a CDL, you have to be part of the clearing house and a drug consortium regardless of the setup you are operating.

Imagine taking his advice and missing out on your opportunity I’ll take the risk if I fail I can always go back to a 9-5 but if I succeed I’ll enjoy life now and later
@jlovetheflash5371Ай бұрын
Imagine jumping into hotshot in a very tough market, grinding for the next 3 years to make ends meet, not having enough money to buy new equipment, and returning to your 9-5 with thousands of dollars in debt. I am all about sending it, that is what we did four years ago, but I also believe it is very important to do research, examine opportunities and make decisions that put you in the best case scenario to succeed. Check out my video talking about how to be successful in hotshot trucking in 2024.

Well... heres my deal... and not trying to brag.... Ive been an owner operator of a tree biz for 36 years. Im 53 now... never really have got to travel out of the state as ive been working my arse off. Ive saved around 1.3 million dollars. I have zero debt... and have already purchased an f600 with a sleeper cab and a 40ft 40k gross weight gooseneck. Im in the process of filing all the necessary paperwork ect. I have my cdl A and have tons of big truck driving experience. I doubt I will make any money in the first year but i figured since everything is paid for I have a slight advantage. I just want to learn the game and put some time in. I figured if im stuck somewhere looking for another load... i can do some site seeing ect. I dont have all the answers but i have a plan. My motto since I was 17... whatever you think about most will happen.... failure isnt a option in my brain. Hopefully i can make a few bucks and see the country doing it.
