Well, how do goats shed wool, without shearing.

You don’t set goat on his bottom like sheep shearers do. Better for your back.

Thank you for showing the comb positionto the skin! So many videos of sheep shearing deal with handling the animal and executing the "blows", but yours is the first Ive seen that talks about how to handle the clipper and comb in detail. I will be trying your method tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

This video was a big help. I was able to do an Icelandic ram and had no problems - your tips on holding the cutter relative to the skin helped. The wool fell off like butter. When I tried it with the Suffolks - I had more problems and the wool wouldnt cut. Will try again.

Cuddling pups and stroking affectionate adult dogs shows you are not conditioning them well. Their bond to the sheep should be stronger than the bond to man. As soon as they are weaned place them with the sheep and just ignore them. Their working instinct (protective, attentive, trustworthy) clicks into place automatically. Feed them where the sheep are. From then on they must never be separated from the flock they are to protect, day and night, good or bad weather, hot to cold, for the rest of their lives. Each flock should be guarded by a team of three or four adults comprising one female. If the flock is sold its own Maremmas go with it.

Heh, a comb shouldn't be kept on longer than about half an hour, especially on a hothandle like that. It must get pretty dull if he does 20 goats on one in 4hrs

have you EVER heard of the term - 2nd cut? Every single stroke you made on this animal, was followed by a '2nd cut' and frequently a 3rd cut! thus leaving the fleece FULL of little bits of 2nd cuts that are TOTALLY USELESS to the spinner of this yarn, not to mention all the wasted tiny bits of fleece that will be tossed out! ONE LONG SINGLE STROKE is the only way to shear an animal who's fleece is going to be used for ANYTHING other than stuffing a cushion!

The way you treat your animals is not cruel, obviously, and I don't have a problem with ethical responsible people that shear their goats or sheep (or Llamas), the problem is not you and people like you, the real problem is things like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGaycpiIp7h7qJY

Seems a very long and fiddly process. Can goats not be shorn using the Bowen method, as normally done for sheep? All over in a couple of minutes, easier to stretch the skin, easier to see what you're doing. Cleaner result too.

Yeah. You can shear them as often as you want, right? Do the fibers have to be a certain length to be spun into yarn?

Thanks for the video. I have watched a few times and will watch more as I am not looking forward to doing my goats. I am very afraid of it and cutting them. Getting them to stand still enough. It is August and I thought that is when you should cut them but I was just told they are done in May and only once.

Now following Your Channel! Thank you for al thèse precios informations ! I am in Mexico now and bought some land. I have been breading dogs and horses all my life…and as a teenager was milking goats and doing cheese. I would go for that process, though would looooove to try breading angora goats…and work/hobby with the fiber! Where can we find/buy our first goats? Have you heard of places in Mexico, a specific state? I live in Jalisco and the land is in the mountains,….so never freezing but not too hot….thank you for any advise or referral!!!
