@@oddball1999 I find for me, there's too much of a gap between where the lightweight bag stops and the medium bag becomes worth it's weight and bulk. It seems I've become more tolerant to down as I've gotten older, and I now use an Aegismax Nano M2 bag down to 5 degrees, then I use my Alpkit Skyehigh 900 for lower temps. The Nano M2 is half the size and weight of the lightweight bag, and the Alpkit is less than half the size and weight of the medium bag but just as warm.

I once stood above Goredale looking at the view and I remember thinking, “this is all mine”, well, for that moment. Janet’s Foss is magical. My wife and I walked from Settle to Malham, then onto Grassington and along the river Wharfe to Ilkley one August bank holiday 40 years ago. Lovely memories of a three day walk. We spent many holidays with our kids camping in the Dales and Peak District. Now, 78 yrs old, it takes me all my time to walk to the shops. Enjoy your youth, and your knees, while it lasts.

@AndyWragg did you do a follow up? I know a lot can happen in 6 years especially considering the last 4. I was thinking of building this and was hoping to find some good tests. A few things I've learned. feed line wants a 1 to 1 signal, might locate the tunner at the base of the antenna This antenna isn't a harmonic on any amature radio frequencies. I was thinking of making mine longer. I'll keep looking but wanted to share these two tib bits with you. de ki7cia

Hi - Sadly I haven't done any specific testing but I did use it on a trip to the Peak District to make a few contacts not long after this video was made. Little did I know that my IC-706 was faulty and need to go for repair shortly afterwards. I've not been very active with the hobby lately, so for the most part my gear sit's unused.

@@AndyWragg well get your butt out there... lol jk. Sometimes life has other ideas. I started down a rabbit hole I didn't expect after learning these military antennas are supposed to be for 6 and 9 mhz. I've learned that I don't think the little bit of elevation make much of a difference. And trying to lean optimization with mmana gal simulations that an off centered dipole might have one leg just under 2 meters and the other about 20 meters for an antenna 4ft or 1.5m off the ground. I did not expect that. Good luck getting back out there!!!! de ki7cia 73

I too have looked all over for a review of the Lowe Alpine Khumbu, so its nice to see this. I've had mine for 13 years and its gone around the world with me. Phenomenally durable and easy to navigate with. The only deterioration that occurred was some of the zip pullers broke, but i was fortunate to find a random baggage repair shop where he simply put in new zip pullers for almost free shockingly. I told him i was thinking of buying a new backpack if I couldn't get the pullers, and he just said they don't make such sturdy backpacks of this quality unless you are wiling to pay a bomb. I paid about EUR 230 for it back then. 1 clasp was broken and was also easily replaced. I've never wanted to use any of the traditional suitcases for traveling, and i mostly never used it for hiking anyway. It's a great bag. Let me try to upload a pic of it.

Nice one. I let mine go not too long ago as I replaced it with the Osprey Atmos 65. It's the comfiest pack I've ever had on, although not as spacious as the Khumbu, but thats a good thing as it makes me think twice about what I need to carry.

Nice video Andy, it's good to know that you've recovered from your DIY mishap mate.👍 That campsite looked great. You're allowed fires with no chance of being moved on.🙂 It was good to see your Kelly Kettle, I have the similar British made Ghillie Kettle (I think that it's a 500ml capacity). What I like about it, is that it came with a cross stand for the top of the chimney (useful if you're using a spirit burner and don't need to feed wood in from the top), so as well as boiling the water in the jacket, you can stick a pan on top for boiling some more at the same time, or as I've used it in the past, to cook my grub in a pan on top of it whilst having boiling water in the jacket for an accompanying brew. Even though your Ale wasn't 7.3🙂, those are still good beers which you mentioned. Also, that beef sizzling in the pan looked awesome mate, with the finished stew looking mighty tasty. This was another top bit of viewing Andy and relaxing to watch.👍
@AndyWragg
@AndyWragg 8 ай бұрын
Cheers Steve. I've got the pot stand for the kettle, I just didn't use or need it in this situation. I got this one off Michael (the younger chap in the video with the youngling) as he got himself the very bling Petromax version with more capacity last year. As it stand's my kettle holds just enough water to give me a decent brew in my Osprey mug, surely the best bit of kit the British Army has ever issued. Once the woodland that we normally use has dried up somewhat we'll be back there. It's been too wet and dangerous to camp in for the last half year. What with all the rain and strong winds knocking trees over it's just not been viable. The group has got the use of an old church hall to meet in, but dossing inside just doesn't cut it when you can wake up to birdsong, and get bleary eyed round the campfire.

Thx Sarah, I just use my Samsung S23 (basic - couldn't afford the bling one) and film in full HD at 60 fps @16:9 aspect ratio. I've got a GoPro 8 but it just can't hack it when it's cold, so I only use it when it's warm out. I suppose I really ought to give some of the Enduro batteries a try with it. I also use Magix Movie Studio 2023 (what used to be Sony Vegas back in the day) on my PC for the editing. This makes a big difference over the freeware editing software. It isn't cheap but worth the investment to unlock the features. Now I've got the hang of the workflow and features I can put a video together quite quickly. The walk did me a world of good. All that snot just drained away in the fresh air and I've felt much better since, thanks again. ATB Andy.

A cracking walk Andy, the northern edge of Kinder is ace. Less people and more wild and rugged. I think that you made the right decision with not doing the 7 min crossing, not only because of time restraints, but after all the rain of recent, it'll be a swamp-fest. Sorry to hear about Jackie mate, here's wishing that she gets well soon. Your route in and out was a steep one mate, it would have taken me ages with lots of breather stops. Also, well done mate for crossing that stream at the end.🙂 There was some great footage in that Andy, especially those panoramic views.👍

I have the Medium and the large size in these bags, I am 5ft 7in and 80 kilo, the Medium size bag is the right length for me but as for the width, around my hip area the bag is tight not much room for me let alone getting any kit in side with me, the Large bag however is long but the inside size for me is much better for movement, apart from the hood, the hood is a little to big. My feelings are they get this wrong and should of made a small, medium, large size and the Medium should of been made a little wider as you would struggle with your SA80 A2 in there. These bags are made for quick exit, so you just rip the zipper open hence the repair zipper supplied with some NOT all.
