Excellent video!! I’m a 40 year building contractor, concrete & masonry guy I’m a very new welder, never thought steel absorbed steel…. I did figure the low winter temperature… here in WNY…. I guess there’s no welding in my cold ass garage. It’s delicate fender patches, I don’t want any errors or faults. I’ll try March 31st….

Great video, thank you! One question, if the weld is being done on two pieces of metal being attached through a hole on one metal, spot welding basically , do I heat the metals while they're pressed together or heat them each separately?
@FerrousPhoenix2 ай бұрын
@@blackton3 I would heat them separately first to get the majority of the moisture out. And while they are still warm put them together and heat them again, then weld them together.
@blackton32 ай бұрын
@@FerrousPhoenix Appreciate the info! If I'm working with a large piece, would it help to follow your method of heating separately, heating pressed, and then after every couple of welds, hit the rest of the metal again with a heat gun (or torch) just to keep maintaining the warm temperature throughout the large piece until done? (In case it starts cooling) Thanks for the very quick reply! :)
@FerrousPhoenix2 ай бұрын
@blackton3 As long as the metal stays at least warm to the touch, and doesn't get below 50°F you shouldn't have to reheat the metal prior to each weld. Also I would avoid using a heat gun and I'd stick to only using a flame if it cools down too much.

Back in mid 1980s,after I got out of 2 years diesel mechanic school,my first job was building demolition and excavation company. Almost all bigger buildings had steel I beams and H beams. They used the 80 gallon propane tanks and the big Dewar oxygen bottles. Torches were about 3.5 feet long,with as many as 3 people cutting on one set of tanks.

Point the heat into the cylinder and it gets trapped longer and would work

I'm going to try this, and I'm planning to create a tiny hollow at center, on the side I'll be hitting. Gonna use a center-punch, and possibly drill a small hole (1/16 inch, 1.6 mm deep). I think that may help the metal spread out more easily with less effort. Note: Will probably need to grind or file the top FLAT before making the dimple.

Did you have it plugged into 110 or 220? I’m looking at this machine presently and everything you said definitely help make a decision on this will probably suit my needs just right. It’s just for helping some neighbors that have different types of trailers that seem to break the simplest things on them. Also did you happen to try and weld any stainless steel ? By the way I liked how thorough and detailed you explained each and every part of the machine that you would use.

Yes and before putting on gauges always turn tank on for sec to blow out anything in you bottle do that stuff don’t get in your regulator.
@janettewelsh216510 ай бұрын
What you are attempting is in fact an autogenous weld. Your filler material will be as close to identical to the tube material. That is the definition of autogenous. TIG welding these two parts would be your best option.
@janettewelsh216510 ай бұрын
That copper tube does not contain any steel. It's almost pure copper just like your filler wire. The extra strength you are talking about comes from the cold forming process in the manufacturing of the tube itself. When you heat it to weld it you will anneal it locally and soften that area.

You were the first result in a '6011 vs 6013' search; please use that youtube algorithm advantage to make a fair comparison.
