Tablets with touch cost more. They're worth it. Also, friction on the screen matters. We live in a tactile world and need tactile feedback. Get yourself a paper feeling screen protector on the XP Pen.

I am looking for a first screen tablet, here in Canada the Huion 19 pro is $1500 CAD, the Cintiq Pro 17 is $3280 CAD, so guess which one I am getting, thanks for the review man, very instructive !!!

I see I see, I thought I was the only one but seems like pen tablets do incentive you to use more wrist movements and contrary to you I actually put more strain onto my forearm for this subconscious need for getting more precise haha. I have a theory on why I tend to use more my wrist with pen tabs (and this might be fairly obvious). A 24inch monitor allows me to see more of my canvas which of course translates into less moving around it. However, because medium pen tabs are about the same as a 12inch pen display this means that I'm subconsciously stuck at drawing on a super small area! I tried to use a large pen tab once (HUION Giano), but it only mitigated this issue. Maybe things can be different for you, XP-Pen Deco Pro Gen 2 has a MASSIVE pen tablet that might incentivize you to do more shoulder movements.

For the screen feel, on my Ipad I got a "paperlike" (brand name) matte screen protector that really helped with that. Probably not available in a singular 24" film, but the actual drawing space one uses on a screen like this is usually smaller. Using a screen-film does add another mm or so of space between nib and drawing though. I've used a Cintiq Pro 24" for many years and eventually that screen too becomes very "plastic on glass" feel, with a friction you don't have when using non-digital wet medium. It is a ergonomic factor that makes work both slower and more straining over time.
@vvalteria2660Ай бұрын
So the screen just wears off? Then I'll go with huion, if even screen feel of cintiq is gonna feel close to it anyway
@LeflairZoneАй бұрын
@@vvalteria2660 Yes, I had the 16" first gen wacom cintiq (complete rubbish, very flaky cables and they tried to solve it twice with "you have to buy this dongle" solutions) which had a even more noticeable "Grain" on the screen - which was worn off after 1-2 years of drawing on it. Might last longer if you don't draw every day, of course. Side effect of that grain: would go through wacoms nibs every 3-6 months or so.

Would a smaller pen tablet give you less strain?

Your description of ballpoint pen on printer paper is exactly what i prefer to use often with traditional media 😂 I do have much better quality stuff and sketchbooks with nice paper but i think because thats all i had growing up as a child and teen, i like the familiarity of ballpoint pens

This video jusy randomly showed on my my home page. Idk if you know this but witj your huion tablet you have the option to turn off the screen to use it just as a pen tablet. (Probably useless to know now since you can't returnnthe intuos pro but maybe you can sell it if you want)

Wonder if you’re still checking your channel. This latest video seems to be showing the Cintiq Pro 24” and I recall your previous video you mentioned you were replacing it with the Kamvas Pro 24”. Did you do it or decided to keep the Cintiq?

i feel that it is still too early for display tablet to invest in a large one. Especially now they are starting to introduce the touch feature. Waiting a few more years, and these display tablet will become more like an ipad or android tablet, but with the pen sensitive, and texture,

Informative comparison, however no wonder your getting a sore wrist using the tablet flat on the desk. I use mine on an old A2 board and have it angled at a height so my arm is hanging relaxed and my wrist is in a natural position. I took the arm wrest of my chair as it was in the road. I can see the temptation of a drawing screen however coming from a fine art background the ergonomics often look wrong when I see people crouched over them, face 6 inches from the screen.

Surely your toddler is the reason you're smashing your felt nibs? Some artists never change their original nibs. I have, only to see if there was any difference after a few years of use. There wasn't any discernable at all.

Hi, great video. I am going to ask your recommandation on something. I learned drawing and painting traditionally. Then shifted into digital, more like a amature 2d illustrator, learning 3d as well. I has been using low priced pen tablet so far, planning on an upgrade within 800-1k $. Should I go for a premium pen tablet from wacom, or low budget 22 inch pen display from Huion/XP pen ?

Wacom meeting in 2023: CEO: Wacom 2023 is like... so.. we are selling overpriced products. Everyone is saying it and most cant afford our gear.. so.. Another person in the meeting: So.. we create more affordable alternatives with great value and destroy the competition? CEO: WHAT? Hell no, double the price on our next product line!

Yes the Wacom is over priced, we all know that. If you want the best then you spend the money. In the long run it will pay off. You really missed it on both touch and the EK remote. Watch some vids. and you will see what touch can do. The EK Remote allows you to enhance the pen with onscreen menus radial or grid. Very much like some of the Blender addons. When everything is done with the pen and it's menus you don't have to look at the keyboard to find the right hot key. It is much faster and feels more natural.

Thank you for this review, very helpful! I've had the same question for a while now, is Wacom overpriced because sure seemed that they are. I am looking at Wacom XP Pen and Huion, also glad you mentioned the touch part, I could see some benefit but I think not for another $700 or so just for touch.

What software do you use. I'm into floral watercolor painting. I want to go with ipad and procreate.. but I have been using PC for 30+yrs now. Big mental block for using new tech. Thanks.

I use Photoshop for drawing, but I haven't done a lot of colored paintings. The brushes they have for Photoshop seem to mimic watercolor brushes decently well to my eye at least, but I think it's going to be hard to truly replicate the look of a traditional watercolor piece. I would say your experience will probably be the same if you choose an iPad or a screen tablet or a pen tablet. It's going to all be about the brush you choose. I've tried both, and used both for 8hours + a day for years. I think you summed up a lot of the positives and negatives. Ultimately I agree that for your back and neck the non display tablet is good. Eventually I mainly used a display tablet and the reason why is because I can draw longer, draw faster & focus better. which over time I personally believe if your work requires precision you would be able to get more done than if you gave up the display. For things like painting and other non precise things you can use the display tablet like a non display if you prefer this is what some professionals do. they use a cintiq like an intous for some things and use the display on it when they need precision. I think alot of modern people and artists have become obsessed with ergonomics and such which makes sense but people forget or do not know that some of the best artists ever like michelengelo and others endured many difficutl things to achieve great art such as when he strained his neck looking up at the ceiling as he painted the sistine chapel, 18 hours a day for 4 years ultimately made huge sacrifices to achieve incredible feats, imagine explaining to him you cant do some drawings at a nice comfortable desk for a few hours.

I got the Huion Kamvas Pro 19, and while it worked fine, I didn't like the screen texture, plus I felt there were some color accuracy issues. Returned it. Might save up more for a Cintiq. EDIT: A Cintiq or Xencelabs

This video was exactly what I have been looking for. Most folks I know use a Wacom but I heard so many good things about the XP Pen I had to find some unbiased reviews. The way you talk about the feel rather than just stats helps so much. This confirms what I suspected: Wacom is better but not enough to justify the price. And hey, at time of writing, the Artist 24 Pro is on sale for 25% off! Bargain!

This was very helpful! Thank you. I'm a scientist trying to do illustrations to communicate research results - not an official card-carrying artist, but someone who is trying to develop my computer drawing skills. Your analysis helps me with the decision on my leap from mouse to drawing screen. Your 3-D drawings are fantastic! Watching you work on those is inspirational (I'm a geologist/geochemist, so 3-D visualization is huge for me). I'll watch your Draw Along videos next. Thank you!
