May Allah put barakah in your work. Our community needs more of these thoughts, provoking conversations. We must learn to take what we find beneficial and leave the rest. Our stories and life experiences are so diverse, and sometimes, it is good to hear different points of view.

i thoroughly enjoyed every episode i listened to, even being brought to tears by some. the people who are criticising are the ones who are in more need to hear the stories of these wonderful people that you bring on the podcast. Please brother keep doing what you are doing, change in society is brought upon by people like yourselves who have the awareness of what is happening in our communities and willing to shed light upon them. Ignorance is prevalent and our immigrant communities living in the west are suffering, and trust me i am yet to see an ignorant person enjoy being educated and made aware of their own problems there is almost always resistance to change and criticism of the very people who want their best interests. Its all part of the process brother, may god keep us steadfast on the path inshallah.

This was such an amazing podcast. The part where he went to America to find his Islamic roots and acknowledge how much the American Muslims influenced our Islamic identity. We were thought nothing but shame from our Islamic community it was people like Malcom X and Muhammad Ali who thought us to be proud of ourselves. This is such an important story. In the end it bothered me that he said he is trying to show non-Muslims about Islam and I thought,' here we go again begging our colonial oppressors to acknowledge our humanity' but then but when he said, they use the camera to dehumanize us and he is using that same weapon, that was really powerful and empowering.

thanks for talking about this, i myself have been hearing voices and having visions of things not actually there for about 9 years. Only after suffering for many years silently did i finally seek the help of mental health professionals and try medication which alhamdulilah has made me feel a million times better. Initially me and my family were not too well informed about mental health in general and it doesnt help that the whole community doesnt talk about these things either. We sought the help of the shaykhs and tried treating it spiritually however that did not seem to work. Alhamdulilah for everything though i feel blessed to be able to be functioning as i am now and receive the help that i need. If only more mosques were more open about these topics and as a community we were made more aware of these problems then many people would have reduced their suffering and not gone down the path of suicide and addictions. thanks again for talking about this, may god reward you both for the work that you do😊

I don’t know what yemeni community this guy is talking about. I’m yemeni and he is clearly exaggerating. Not sure if this is on purpose or he only new a family that perhaps has a genetic mutation or something. But to make it look like every family has someone who is schizophrenic or su1c1d. al is BS. If he only knows the people that come to his mental health clinic then he should know only people with mental issues will visit his clinic. I hate the fact that this channel is promoting this without verifying only to gain more views.

As someone who’s also a Yemeni living in Dearborn. Everything he said is 100% true alot of the behaviors we see have become very normalized and there’s nothing wrong with doing the research to get help. It doesn’t have to be something to be ashamed of but something to recognize and take advantage of the resources available so it’s no longer an ongoing issue.

@@Hotcheetopopcorn why don’t you show your real name so I can verify if you’re yemeni or not. Also, you have schizophrenic in your family and your cousins families? Because out of the thousands I know I can only think of one schizophrenic person here in dearborn. I’m sure there are more but I don’t think they are more in percentage than any other community.

I think our Muslim community has MANY mental health issues that are not talked about enough. There is still stigma around it. We NEED to talk about it more to break the stigma. I don’t think we should go around exposing our sins or other sins. But I think it’s important to break the silence on topics that are plaguing our community! I love this channel ❤️🤲🏽 May Allah swt bless you!!

I could almost agree with every single thing he said. Especially about the unknown issues in our community. After many years of lots of social interaction in this community, we all seem to have a friend or two who we jokingly say are 'a little out there' or 'you know how they are' but we would never label that person, they're completely 'normal' other than that 'weird' thing they do. I have slowly been noticing they come from families with 'close knit' marriages. When certain cultures, especially the Yemani community, have such strict expectations of even the exact city that the spouse should be from within Yeman, in combination with the plethora of other exposures in specifically the South end of Dearborn with the air quality and food, etc. - I would not be surprised one bit if the link he is suspecting exists in one way or another. I've noticed it among the Yemani and Lebanese community the most. I'd be very interested if our institutions put more effort into these topics since they drive the future of our Ummah.

The public education of America is not broken but was always broken! They don’t teach you anything! 12 years in school and nothing to help in real life! After elementary and you learn how to read, write, and learn basic math! The rest is to teach how to be a slave to big corporate’s!

I want to tell sister Zeinab that she isn’t alone in feeling this way about Ashoura. I struggled with this after seeing the exaggeration as well. Unfortunately, it is almost like idolizing and less about following in the footsteps of our prophet’s family nowadays. And it isn’t only Ashura. It’s the “3ayb” for women but not 3ayb for men. We see men shirtless and they see nothing wrong with it as if modesty isn’t for men; why don’t we hear more about the “hijab” for men? And countless other things. Before Imam Ali’s martyrdom, he left us with this message which is recorded in Nahjul Balagha Letter 23: “I enjoin upon you as my dying wish not to regard anything by way of partner with Allah, not to disregard the sunnah of Muhammad (may Allah bless him and his descendants), establish these two pillars and light these two lamps. You will then be free from evil.” In our mosques, we need more of teachings about following the sunnah of our prophet through the teachings of the family of our prophet rather than making mourning and Ashoura be the center of their story.

It is brainwashing. I was a public school teacher before being Muslim. In Texas they spend 9 weeks on teaching Anne frank in English. Why? Can’t we spend history time on that or read any other story about internment camps in American, like the Japanese? It’s not enough though, because they then take 9 more weeks on high school to teach it in English again. What’s the message: The Juice need to be safe…yeah. Right.

So much for a free country, when the both of you are self censoring because of the rainbow mafia. Jafar doesn't want to have a strike on his channel and Zaynab doesn't want to be reprimanded at the public school. Other communities and religious groups look at the Muslims who are capable of putting a stop to the degeneracy that's taking place in the society, because Islam is about family values and focus on raising children on the correct path. As far as the the exaggeration of the majalis, I would advise Zaynab to look into Sheikh Mohammad Taqi Bahjat and understand what it means to cry and shed tears for Imam Hussain. I hope Jafar can reach out and have a podcast with Hajj Khalil Jafar to give more understanding about majalis/azadari and raising children in the west.

Sometimes we censor ourselves for the sake of respecting others as well. Certain audiences are extremely sensitive to their beliefs and saying your own opinion offends them. I agree with what she said and more. If I want to truly represent my Islamic beliefs, I would comfortably and publicly say some Shia practices of idolizing people contradict other Islamic values. But would I use a huge platform to say so? No. To each his own. But that's just me. I cannot comfortably have that conversation with certain people because they would be offended if I even begin to mention the flaws in some of the ashuraa cultural practices. Not everyone is open minded. Being in the public eye having this conversation is already risky on its own and him even posting it is more open minded than some people that you cannot have this conversation with. I understand your standpoint and agree to some of it. You can comment to make your point in a polite way as not to be so judgemental of those who are at least trying.

If you’ve watched previous episodes, you’ll know that these subjects have been opened and discussed before. That subject was just not on the list of things that I had planned to talked to Zeinab about so we brushed past it. What Zeinab said, I don’t totally disagree with as well and the whole point of having these conversations is sharing ideas and points of views. You don’t have to agree with them and you can come up with your own judgement on any subject discussed. I hope this clear things up.
@podnotfromhere

It was gutsy from Zeinab to even say something like that publicly. My job is not to censor ideas that I don’t agree with. You can say whatever you want and have your own opinion. As long as you’re ready to discuss it then that’s all that’ll be asked from you.
