I received my Bachelors degree from Florida State University in 1994. I studied Sociology and Women’s Studies, and completed my internship at a battered women’s shelter. My years in college were some of the best in my life. It makes me so sad that the university classes that were so intellectually stimulating and thought provoking are now banned. I was born and raised in Florida and it is shocking that the state I grew up in has changed so dramatically. We have been taught that the U.S. is a free country but Florida has been put on lock down. I will never return. I now live in the beautiful state of Colorado and have a view of the Rocky Mountains. I miss the beach at times, but I love my freedoms more. I have always felt that school was for learning reading, writing and arithmetic. Not for pushing immoral sex practice and mutilation of children’s body’s and minds.

I am a retired special education teacher. My students needed sex education at an early age. I had female students who were unaware of their cycle and were devastated when it happened. Their parents underestimated the reactions that some had and it fell on the teachers to educate them. Sex education was also necessary for my male students who were woefully unaware of the changes in their bodies. Thankfully I taught in Pennsylvania. I don’t blame teachers that have decided against teaching in Florida and other red states.
