It's just pot luck , Some days I go out in the car and make no contacts at all , Even though I'm hearing them well over S-9's .... Then other days it's one shout out and BOOM im Straight in .

If you want to get into 10 mtrs the easiest way is to change the mixer crystal ... It's normally a 15.000 MHz crystal in the PB010 chassis , Changing it to say 15.8 MHz will jump the radio up by around 80 channels ....... You can also do the same with the 3 crystal version of the superstar/ cobra , But these arnt so broad banded as the later single crystal version , So a bit more tuning of the stages is required .... But it's still a simple process on both types of chassis ..... Have a look at swapping the crystal it's the easiest way ...... Modding the diode matrix ( PB010) and the band switch is a lot more involved .

It's a ' CRE-8900 ' .. same radio as the Alinco DR-135 ... Just a different name .

I modified the diode matrix , It's a very easy mod , It's his the low mid and high bands are configured , But by adding a few more diodes and modding the 3 way band switch to work 6 positions you can mod the radio to cover 26.065 to 28.775 MHz .

It's not a board , I modified the PLL circuit to get the extra channels , Then modded the clarifier to operate tx and TX over 12 khz to allow full flexibility to be able to get the zeros etc.

Had it been tweeked up I wonder ?

Yes they are , Easy to instal , And pretty cheap .

CB is still going over here , Although it's very quiet though , There's a fair bit though when the propagation is strong and you are able to work DX , But Locally CB is all but dead , Especially around here , There's the odd few who still use it but you can count them in the fingers of one hand , I also like to listen to the US AM channels , And listen to the Superbowl channel and channel 28 as well , Sure is a lot on when the skip is rolling .... My main issue is the lack of a decent clear schematic diagram online , And that there's no silkscreen on the radio for you to identify the parts location , it just makes fault finding so much harder , But it's getting there and hopefully another old CB will be back in the air within the next week .

Yes just voltage checking at this point , Once it's actually working , Then Ile align it best I can and do some reciever/ Transmitter tests .

It's very quiet around here on 27/81 , It's not much better on the mid band or on SSB other than when the skip is running , There a small crowd of us who get onto channel 25 most evenings for an hour or so , And you'll hear a few in through the day on and off , But activity in general is a far far cry to what it once was , I remember you couldn't find a clear empty channel , But over the last 20 odd years it's really tailed off , Maybe some areas are better than others , But here around here in the south Wales valleys activity is very quiet .

It does , But I've dialed it back to around 80 watts .

Even after 45 years on CB , I still get a buzz working across the pond , Yes it can be noisey with all the voices but to me it just adds to the CB experience 👍
