Good to see people willing to have a go with the horses. Rather than a straight mower, if you are using a pto rig anyway, would be a 7 ft cut haybine. I run a NH 477 haybine and it is a dream compared to my old plug-o-matic sickle mower. As much as I love tradition, I love good hay better. I swath it wide right out of the haybine and leave it lay, generally, for 2 days after cutting day, rake into windrows day 4 and bale day 5. Can very seldom make 4 day hay here in Ontario even tedding and carrying on. The hay I see tedded/macerated/merged/retedded ad nauseum usually ends up brown dusty sticks baled too wet. Never heard of enorossi machinery here...maybe there is a reason why.

Those reciprocating knife mowers have always been troublesome! They were always jamming or going blunt. They often had someone on the headland sharpening the next knife to put in the mower. And also the grass crop was a lot lighter when those mowers were made, as they didn’t have the fertilisers to use in those days. You could of done with an old horse hay rake to clean up what the baler missed on the field, they are a lovely implement to work. I expect you know about what Johnathan waterer does with modern horse gear. He is the man to follow!! Great video👍

@@borisilic8383 I think our series on training horses for work might be helpful
Can you do a detailed video on how you decided to position the horses as wheelers and leaders. Is there a reason you put horse A on as Rt leader, and horse D as Rt wheeler, etc. Is there more to position other than the more forward horse is in the leader position? The next video on hitching correctly. Do you use a helper? I am interested on how you set up the reins. And your rein handling. Your style vs. Auchenbach 4 in hand. Can you use a rein-board with different color lines to follow slowly and easily. Thank you.

Can you do a few videos on the equipment arrangements. Closeups on how the pole looks and the different parts to make a Unicorn hitch work. How you would put to a Tandem. I have a pair setup and want to know what I need to do to my pole to make it work for a Unicorn.

Your team works excellently! Isn't it ironic, from to the plow to the harness everything is imported while once the UK was the cradle of modern industrialization. Greetings from Missouri. On a side-note: As much fun it is for a horse farmer ( which I am, too) to be plowing a field, we must realize that in the long run plowing destroys the soil structure and for the sake of soil health has to be replaced by different strategies.

All that rain should make for easy going. Been too dry here. Was starting a pair on the walking plow 2 weeks ago and it was challenge on all fronts. Been logging in the woods hoping for a rain to soften the ground up and resume plowing. I'm surprised only 2 teams plowing competitively! I was at the IPM here in Lindsay a few weeks back and I counted close to a dozen teams about equally divided between sulky and walking divisions.

They are all so cute ♥ Had a chuckle at Lottie happily trotting into pasture before realizing she forgot her little colt and ran back. XD Your take on crossbreeding is quite interesting. You know how there is a myth that cross-bred dogs/mutts are generally more healthy than pure bred dogs (presumably because of their genetic diversity), does a similar myth exist for horses? I think you touched upon it in this video when you said you purposefully bred two horses to fix the leg issues of one of them. By the way, would you guys be interested in making a family tree of your horses so we as viewers know who's related to who and what breed(s) they all are? I'd love to have a "cheat sheet" on hand when watching your videos. ;P
@hitchinfarm4 ай бұрын
I could do! Yes we try to improve upon the bad traits, especially the ones that are extremely prevelant in any one breed eg the cpl in brabant.

Wow! Usually I'm of the opinion that most male horses should be gelded for reasons related to human safety and quality of life for the stud. But you provide your stallions with physical and mental exercise by giving them a purpose/job (driving), AND they have their social needs met (almost identical to how wild stallions form bachelor groups when they are too young/old to defend a harem of mares by themselves) instead of isolating the poor stud and forbidding him from ever be a herd animal ever again. No wonder these lads looked so calm and confident when they were pulling that cart! You guys have done an awesome job training and raising them. Subscribed!

Hi! We don't generally put our horses into real work until they are 4/5 years old when they are mentally and physically fit to do the job. I would suggest taking things right back to your desensitisation work, then turning them away to mature for a while
