I just watched (Sep. 2024) your videos ( 9 episodes ) of you travelling around the Island. I loved it! I have visited there many many years ago and now my son and his fiancee just moved there a few months ago. You got me so excited to come back.

I survived Iniki in 1993. Had you been there at that time, you would understand why they are still working on the bridge. The inquiry you should really make is why Kaua'i never learns its lesson and does not bury its electrical lines. They had opportunities after 1993, they had opportunities going all the way back to 1982 after Iwa. Ask somebody about that.

Wow, just like when we were there October 2023. First time to Hawaii. Loved it, we will be back. We stayed at Plantation Hale Suites, next to the Coconut Market. Mahalo.

We were looking to move there as a family, and asked about it in a facebook group, and it's basically a pig-pile of people condemning us for wanting to move there due to the housing shortage. Did you find it hard when you moved there? Like getting a lot of hate.

Our old family beach house from the 50's was there somewhere (toward middle of the bay), spent many summer vacations there. Grew up on Oahu, grad high school on Big Island and UH Manoa. 4th generation island family going back to Great Grandparents but moved away late 70's for better opportunities. Hawai'i will always be home!

This was so cool because you showed the VRBO that we stayed at on Kauai in 2019. It was the white building on the corner of the street when you turned down to visit that last little beach. We were in the bottom and had a little lanai under the carport. Every morning we came out and had our tea and watched the chickens. They weren't going to rent it out much longer because a family member was going to move into the space. Then they would have 3 or 4 generations living in the house which is not unusual in Hawaii where local families tend to try to hang on to their homes as generations move in and out. I'm sure that would never be able to afford a place like that so close to the beach if they were to try to buy it today. Sweet memories.

I lived in Princeville 20 years ago when you could still rent a studio condo for $1K a month. I loved Hanalei so much I named my Japanese daughter Hanalei.

I haven't been here since 2013, I spent a lot of time on Kauai between 2001 and 2008. It looks like somethings have changed around the pier since the big flooding episodes of the last 8 years. I love this island, it is so beautiful.

Kealea is never very busy because there is no shade, it is more of a surfers beach as the water is rough. Truly lovely to look at though.

Thank you for your videos. My wife and I really enjoy them. You have a terrific mix of good information, humor, and a terrific voice. Would you happen to know where we can rent bicycles in Kapa’a? The Hele On rentals doesn’t open until 11:00 a.m. and Coconut Coasters looks like it has gone out of business. We’re looking for something earlier in the morning and my internet searches haven’t turned up anything.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not sure myself about bike rentals, but there's a Facebook group called "Kauai Life," and I'll bet if you asked there you'd get an answer. Good luck! And if you're THAT James Taylor, then you also have a very nice voice. ;-)

I always thought it was interesting that there are only three ABC stores on Kauai and that two of them are in Kapa'a (only 1 mile apart). (The other is in Lihue;.) You'd think they'd have put one in either Princeville or Hanalei. Or even in Koloa or Hanapepe. (Or that there'd be TWO in Lihue and ONE in Kapa'a.)

7:02 "If you're going north, the water will always be on your right. That's how islands work." Exactly. Unless you're on the west coast. Then it's on the left. Or in the north. Then it's in front of you. Of course you might also be in the south. Then the water is behind you. And THAT'S (really) how islands work.
@kendallweaver

There's no highway on Kauai's West coast. So if you're here and the water is to your right, you're heading toward the North shore. Glad you liked the video.

Thank you for such awesome, utilitarian videos. One can find a thousand videos of major visitor sites, but yours provide real, practical insight on a fundamental topic…what it’s like navigating the island. Thanks!!!🐬🌴
