I always thought it was interesting that there are only three ABC stores on Kauai and that two of them are in Kapa'a (only 1 mile apart). (The other is in Lihue;.) You'd think they'd have put one in either Princeville or Hanalei. Or even in Koloa or Hanapepe. (Or that there'd be TWO in Lihue and ONE in Kapa'a.)

Thank for the video! I grew up in Hanalei. Left in 1989, back in 94’ and moving back in March hopefully. Been planning this for 8 months, it is nice to see how much it has changed. And still is more beautiful than ever. Bringing my daughter with the move. A Hanalei/ Princeville drive would be amazing.... I know it’s going to be a chore to move but so worth it! The Pandemic has really changed the outlook on the world. Can’t wait to escape to a beach and start a new chapter!

Hey Kendall, thank you for the ride from the airport. I'm planning on the Hilton Garden resort sometime next year, (I hope) and I like to be familiar with where I'm driving which I don't do that often anymore. Used to live on the Big Island in the mid 80's and had planned to visit Kauai before Iniki destroyed the place and never had a chance after that. I'll be watching more of your videos. Might rent one of those Jeeps!

Awesome video, me and my girlfriend have been missing Kauai ever since the last time we left. Hoping to get back soon but thanks for the ride in the meantime. I’ve been lucky enough to say I’ve visited Kauai twice I was hoping to make it a yearly trip but the pandemic threw a wrench in my plans. For now these videos will have to do so thanks a lot. Looking forward to seeing all your other videos and hoping to get back to your beautiful island soon enough.

I survived Iniki in 1993. Had you been there at that time, you would understand why they are still working on the bridge. The inquiry you should really make is why Kaua'i never learns its lesson and does not bury its electrical lines. They had opportunities after 1993, they had opportunities going all the way back to 1982 after Iwa. Ask somebody about that.

Thank you for your videos. My wife and I really enjoy them. You have a terrific mix of good information, humor, and a terrific voice. Would you happen to know where we can rent bicycles in Kapa’a? The Hele On rentals doesn’t open until 11:00 a.m. and Coconut Coasters looks like it has gone out of business. We’re looking for something earlier in the morning and my internet searches haven’t turned up anything.
@kendallweaver2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I'm not sure myself about bike rentals, but there's a Facebook group called "Kauai Life," and I'll bet if you asked there you'd get an answer. Good luck! And if you're THAT James Taylor, then you also have a very nice voice. ;-)

7:02 "If you're going north, the water will always be on your right. That's how islands work." Exactly. Unless you're on the west coast. Then it's on the left. Or in the north. Then it's in front of you. Of course you might also be in the south. Then the water is behind you. And THAT'S (really) how islands work.
@kendallweaver2 жыл бұрын
There's no highway on Kauai's West coast. So if you're here and the water is to your right, you're heading toward the North shore. Glad you liked the video.

Mauka is pronounced Mau ( like “MOUntain” - which helps you remember that it’s toward the mountains) - Ka (kah); Makai is Mah - Ki (as in “Kite”).
