When I was a kid these speed traps were unmanned. It became a bit of a thing to take the plates off them, afix them to your own car and proceed to go past the camera as fast as your car could.

Here in Scotland, these vans only operate at places where accidents happen frequently. It astonished me that so many idiots would actively try to thwart measures designed to stop ignorant speeding drivers from injuring and killing innocent people through their own arrogance and incompetence. We get them parked on the pavement outside someones house well into the evening, in Humberside where I live. Funny that they're not bothered about the dangerous driving at the roundabout 100m up the road, no signalling, cyclists with no lights etc.

The van is there to keep us all safe. Speed is the number 1 cause of incidents, and incidents are the number 1 cause of avoidable deaths of children. If you can't follow the law then you shouldn't be driving, you selfish imbecile.

As long as the camera van is parked legally and safely, it's fine. I saw a picture in the papers once of a camera van parked on double-yellow lines, blocking a bike lane completely and well over the pavement to prevent anything passing on the pavement except a pedestrian - wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs could not pass - the title: "Hypocrits!"
