Those routers, with new firmware allow you to boost antenna power, had my network working a km away

33:05 I can't be the only one who noticed you didn't actually connect using the card, it used the onboard wireless adapter to connect since that was not disabled prior to the connection attempt. It still said "Not connected" for the linksys card. Hence the link light not working on the card.

I ended up building my own DOCSIS 3.0 lab with somewhat more modern hardware because of you. I posted on my channel. Love all of this stuff.

9:54 My first ThinkPad was a 2006 X60t and it arrived with the IBM logo, but every time I sent it in for service, it arrived with one or more logos swapped. I don't remember what repairs it needed, just that it needed several over the years and none of them had to do with the wrist rest or lid, which were what they kept replacing (each of which showed just normal wear and tear, so it was pretty thoughtful that they went ahead and swapped them anyway). But after receiving the old tricolor IBM logo from the factory, the first time it returned from repair with all logos swapped to the new ThinkPad logo that fit the IBM shape perfectly, then it returned from the next repair with one of the logos swapped back, then the other upon the next repair, and then the wrist rest was switched back again to one with the ThinkPad logo rather than IBM.

I will never forget how some of the earlier Linksys gear was really particular about power cycles. I nearly gave up with my router until a friend of mine pointed it out.

I bought one on ebay and it's having some weird software issues, the graph on the sensors page and logs page quits rendering, something tells me mine 2038ed itself early from what I was reading from the log files I could pull off it? I might try to do a video about it. Reflash the firmware or someone

I wonder if they added the plastic covers because most people wouldn't think about it and just put the antennas on with the plastic covers in place, and that would create a crude torque limiting clutch mechanism that would significantly reduce the number of people screwing the antenna on too forcefully, maybe causing a problem with the PCB. Normal people are wildly inattentive, especially about technology

I went through the "little netgear box" phase once too when I connected my analog phones to a VOIP provider, so I understand what the little box does. I also (it was kind of a fluke, weirdly) bought a dirt-cheap 2911 box off eBay with 2-port FXO and 2-port FXS cards in it. I have done the Cisco VOIP (converted to SIP) phones w/ Asterisk (hosted on the internet) and upstream VOIP provider thing, but didn't stick with it, was a fun experiment. I'd like to experiment with my 2911 a little bit, but I'm not sure exactly what I can do with it and only the 2-port FXS card. I have a single analog modem with a serial port, but I don't have your second (internal modem) Cisco box to play with, so I can't really connect the voice line to anything like you are doing. Is the 2911 just an analog-to-digital conversion box? It doesn't have any asterisk-like or modem functionality in it? What can I do with my 2911?
@clabretro4 күн бұрын
What you can do will largely be gated by what modules you have in the 2911, one interesting thing with just an FXS is if you had a SIP and PBX server somewhere, you could dial up via the FXS port in the 2911 to it? I believe you can configure the 2911 to connect calls to a SIP/PBX server - though I've never done it, take that with a grain of salt haha

Kind of weird to now see early to mid 2000s stuff here. I'm born in 1998, so most of the stuff you did before on this channel was always "before my time", but we are now coming to the stuff that I was playing with as a kid. Of course not the camera, but the packaging style, the installers, Windows Media Player and even those configuration utilities and IE7.
