Hey jeff Is that a sea eagle foldcat? How did you manage a gas and trolling motor on that. I'd live to see more about your setup
@dnejeff7 күн бұрын
Hey Dan! It is a Foldcat. I don’t have any more video of it, but built a lightweight plywood deck. I mounted the motor and troller through the wood deck and metal decking. It was super solid and a great platform to stand and fish on. I just honestly got tired of taking it apart to put it away. Hope that helps!

I pitched my tent in the last place on the video 18:08. Caught more fish in the lake than in the creek. I understand the creek aint so good down that low and the lake is not what it used to be either.

Pretty good campground for not having any facilities which is what I prefer but there are a lot of kids that go down there making noise at night and leaving trash all over the place. I always fix up the campsite. I pick really well if I camp at a campsite anyways, you can walk off of site off the recreation area that is in camp anywhere but if I camp at a campsite, I always clean it up really well and I went there in May of last year and back again in June and the site that I had cleaned up and made really really nice even raked the whole area. It was trashed within a month burn piles, full of plastic and all kinds of stuff but other than that it is great lots of nice crystals all over in the creek, and if you climb up , the mountain little bit to the west there’s a lot of crystals that haven’t been rounded off from the water flow from being in the creek and there are also caves directly across the creek from the campsites there is a group of three gentlemen, that are around 50 to 60 years of age that ride quads in a side-by-side. They’re down there every time I’ve been there so I’m guessing they’re there a lot they’re pretty cool dudes .

Great idea with that gar holder! Is that gar spinner that you made good for blindly casting for gars much like a regular spinner is for bass? A slow, steady retrieve is best I assume.
@dnejeff Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I know this would be decent for blind casting, but probably be frustrating because with this set up you are dedicated to gar only (knot on hook would keep bass from being able to bite it.) And yes, I find a slow and steady retrieve to be the best. If site casting, or casting into a group of porpoising gar, a slow retrieve (just enough to keep the spinner action moving) works pretty good. Thanks for the comment! Doug

Hi. I came across your forney creek video which led me to the hazel creek video. How was it managing the cart into the campsite. Which campsite did you guys use. My friend and I are doing hazel creek in 3 weeks. We will be in campsite 84. I’m really intrigued by the use of a cart. A baby jogger may be the ticket as you suggested. You used a hammock at Forney and a tent at Hazel. Which one is better? This will my first time primitive camping in the smokies and certainly won’t be the last.
@dnejeff3 жыл бұрын
Hi Armando. The cart is the ticket for me going forward. We have camped at Hazel for several (7-9) years at most of the campsites. I've backpacked it, I've used a collapsible dolly, a home made (PVC cart with bike wheels,) a 2 wheel game cart, and the jogging stroller. The jogging stroller is far and away the best choice. I wish mine had been a double, but I could only find a single for FB Marketplace cheap. I might look to upgrade to a 2 place one for our next trip. I tried several different kinds of hammocks and just couldn't get comfortable enough to get any real sleep. I am a stomach/side sleeper, and the hammocks just can't get flat enough. I've tried several of the more expensive ones, but just wasn't happy with it. They are great for many, my buddy Tye wouldn't dream of going back to the ground, but it's just not for me. Hazel site have plenty room for tents or hammocks, so you should be good either way, just know that if you are going to use a hammock, plan to sleep mostly on your back and your feet will likely end up above your heart. On the stroller, spend the cash for some new tires if you are getting a used one, and bring a small pump. Can't imagine how much it would suck if the tires went flat while you were out there. Oh, an added bonus of the stroller, you can stop at any time and just walk away from it on the trail.. To do a nature call, or just sit down. Backpacks have to be picked back up and strapped on, and the 2 wheel carts have to lean all the way often dumping your stuff. As far as the trail goes, it is rocky for the most part with mud puddles every so often. Some of the rocks are on the larger size (softball) so they can be a pain for wheels, but that is only in some spots. Overall, larger bike wheels are pretty good on this trail all the way up. Hope that helps, please let me know how your trip went! Doug
@armandoquizon10543 жыл бұрын
@@dnejeff thank you. My friend and I will seriously consider the cart route. I’m looking forward for more videos of your adventures.
@armandoquizon10543 жыл бұрын
@@dnejeff our trip went well with only slight hitches. I was able to get a double jogging stroller locally on marketplace and I was able to load that sucker with more than 50 pounds of gear. My buddy decided to use his backpack but politely asked to put his waders and boots on my cart (ha ha). We camped at #84 which is 5 miles from the dropoff. Fishing was great and the weather cooperated. We made a a trip to Bone Valley and saw the old cabin and the cemetery. On the way back for the pontoon pickup (day4), the front wheel seized (who knows?mud/dirt). So I had to balance the cart on its two wheels. That just added another angle to the whole trip, but considering that, everything went smoothly. We are planning on another trip. Thanks for the advise.
@dnejeff3 жыл бұрын
@@armandoquizon1054 Hey there! Glad your trip was smooth (other than the wheel) great news is it wasn't one of the back wheels. I can't wait to get back there myself. @dnejeff5 жыл бұрын
Hey Doug, I have no idea what their release schedule is or if they have one. I feel like it is a "well today would be a good day to run the power plant" kind of thing. I have only been there twice and had the dam in operation, and i have been there MANY times. I guess you could reach out to Ky power and ask if they have a schedule for it. This time of year, you might get luck enough to motor all the way to the dam in a shallow draft boat. I have been able to do that a few times. Its a great day of fishing every time I go. Enjoy but be careful. Not a lot of help to be had in that area if you run into trouble. Thanks for the comment. Doug

From there I ran the wires to the cockpit (just behind the seat on the left) where I put another plug. From there I ran the power ran up to the front of the boat where I keep the battery. I hope that helps.
