What's the difference between a boom'ed and a boomless mainsail? What exactly does the boom help with?

Hi, thanks for your question. Many people have different views about the boom so please let me your reasoning if it differs from mine, which is that with a boom you have far more control, you can head to wind better and you can maintain the lateral tension on the foot of the sail even if the sail is extended past the sides of the boat 🙂

@@DelTheTope thanks for the detailed reply. I just bought an old beat up dinghy and was wondering if I should include a boom or not, since the rigging is missing and I have to DIY everything. I might try to experiment both with and without in order to truly understand the difference.

Hi Del, i have this bike but the battery was stolen and i can't get a replacement as they no longer use the original type. Have you had problems replacing yours?

Hello, sorry to hear your battery was stolen. I am still using my original battery with seeming plenty of life left in it so I have not had to look for a replacement. Hope you manage find a new one buddy!

Unfortunately it has adds in the video, and for some reason KZbin stopped announcing them. So screen suddenly goes to black(so for a split second you don't know if your tv just died, the KZbin App got disconnected or something else) and then 1 or 2 advert(s) come(s) blasting into your house at a raised volume. Extremely annoying. I am sure you have nothing to do with it, and not even get anything for it but what a sad place KZbin as a platform has become. I remmember the days when it truly was exiting and allowed people from all over the world to share their content. Now it's basically another form of television. Whenever i am not logged in and i see the "recommended" page it is litteraly 80% accounts from legacy media sharing their programs or bits of it, and the other part KZbin content creators who think how to make good video's is by copying tv formats but make it more noisy and flashy. The niche accounts, the content that KZbin offers that can never be matched by legacy media are buried deep, sort of discarded. Very ungrateful if you ask me, because that is the stuff that made KZbin what it is.

Hi Del. I'm interested to know why you've put a set of Heron sails on your Gull? I know the Gull can be a fast boat, so is it to make it a little less lively when it's windy. I'm on the lookout for a Gull myself, which I predominantly would like to use for cruising. Regards to you David.

Hi David, thanks for your interest. On this occasion I used a Heron set of sails as this gives me more headroom with the sail being a little shorter. Gentle cruising is my preferred method of sailing and I have now settled on an old Pacer as this is very light, stable and roomy. It also is very good for sleeping on board. That boom is much higher up than on my Gull spirit, new main sail too.

Yes, that is because I am using the smaller Heron sail. This means I do not have to duck down so low and am happy to be a bit more comfortable even if that means being a little slower on the water. Thanks, Del

Even though this is almost 4 years old, this is, by far, one of the best outdoor, real fires I've seen on KZbin. I did a search today and there are loads that are 8 and 10 hours long, but they are looped. The logs never burn down, the sky never changes and that is just too fake for me. This is awesome. I love everything about it. I especially loved that someone in a boat came by and you knew it wasn't a set up. Love it. I do hope you will do more in this style. I love nature, but I love realistic videos, not looped fake stuff.
