The people I was with, walking from London to Stonehenge in 88 rushed to get to that mini-fest at Calleva/Silchester only to find a bunch of belligerent "Brew Crew" were there. One of the walk organisers was Willie X who had helped expose some of them as thieves at a previous festival - they hospitalised him - the first time I'd seen any behaviour of that kind at any New Ager event. Others of their group were a menacing presence - it was very sad!! Someone even pinched my boots while I slept!!

It all seems a very long time ago now. At the time of the bean field, I'd been living, on and off with the peace convoy for about 4-5 years. When most of them pulled off site to go where ever, I got left behind for some good reason at the time, can't remember now why, though, I think I was meant to go to kent working for a while, but ended up racing about for 2 days and night on a lc 125 trying with a few other scouts to find routes not cut off by police or blocked off, then the bike vanished while I was by questioned yet again about who I was, what was I doing etc etc. Somehow ended up in wagons just behind my usual group, and as the wagons started to break into the field, I was busy trying to get to them and basically ran straight into the police as It kicked off, I got canned twice, escaped twice, tatted a few pigs, one very grainy long press photo shows me at edge of field smacking pig in head with big clod of earth and soil held double handed, didn't do much damage, but meant I had plenty ilof time and room to charge back down the slope at next group 9f pigs, I eventually got banned and properly cuffed,but due to local cops never being quite sure if I was local turned traveler or other way round, but just in case, they took me down to Salisbury police, kept me in van for 2 Hours, then threw me out on the street, literally threw me off police station drive out onto the Wilton rd pavement and told me to go away and stay well away. They didn't want any dealings with my mum, 5ft auburn who knew lots of "country and county" and had caused most authorities in wiltshire memorable grief at sometime recently, so they treated me a bit odd at times. I went back to site at Harnham quarry, expecting a few folk there, but nobody, couldn't seem to get any firm news on who was where, got bored going from place to place and ended up going to kent anyway, just a week later. Caught up with Vince and the rest a few months later, down at the Southampton rd tesco site I think, it was. Trying to remember if lots of us had started working at odstock hospital before or after beanfield. Before, I think.
