Hey, I am going to have a lot of excess. What should I do with that or can I cut it? Thanks
@JoshsSmartHome3 күн бұрын
They advise against cutting them but I’ve read other do it successfully as long as they only cut at increments of 4 lights, but this would be at your own risk. The sets aren’t one long set of lights, so I would see if you can configure them to end at the end of one of the strings which are about 16-17 feet long. The best way I would recommend is to “cheat” the lights either at an end or the space between lights and then hide the cord.

On the Reolink website, it says Color Night Vision or ColorX. Are they different? Or just the same?
@JoshsSmartHome4 күн бұрын
They are different levels of color night vision. The cameras with ColorX provide color in the images at even lower light levels. If you select the products from the menu at the top left of the site, the cameras with the ColorX “X” logo overlay are the ones that have ColorX.
@Keepingthefaith724 күн бұрын
@@JoshsSmartHome Thanks for the reply. The Reolink website doesn't clarify that they are different. I assume ColorX is the better of the two.

You are correct, ColorX provides color at lower light levels. Their site could certainly be improved to point out the differences.

Great video very informative. I am a beginner with any type of home work. I just purchased two boxes of the 100 foot permanent lights. Is it possible to hook two together with one power source or do I need both power sources? Thank you so much.
@JoshsSmartHome5 күн бұрын
Thank you and welcome to the Smart Home world! You can connect *some* of the lights from one to the other, but you need to 2 power sources to get to the full 200 feet. A single power source can only handle 150 feet and that is true even if they weren’t sold as 150 set.

@JoshsSmartHome7 күн бұрын
Yes they make them, but oddly they don’t sell them separately. You can try eBay or somewhere like that. I’ve also read people splicing and putting them together with their own wiring, but that is at your own risk, the only thing that seemed to matter was that they are spliced in multiples of four.

I just started the process with Tesla Energy (signed less than a week ago). Tesla and the power company in my area says they will currently not approve a PowerWall 3 to allow it to send back power to the grid. Therefore, Tesla is saying that I have to use a PW2 or Plus since they will not install PW3 due to the electric company says they want UL listing document changed. Should I go with the PW2 or force PW3. Tesla says it could take months before approval is granted by the power company.
@JoshsSmartHome14 күн бұрын
I looked at the PW2 vs PW3 when I was getting everything setup. I would have had to wait to get PW3 and the specs didn’t make sense for me as long as I was installing more than 1. If I were installing 1 PW, I’d go with the PW3 for higher continuous and peak output, but if I was installing more than one PW2 works great (this is exactly what my situation was which is why we have PW2’s.

Can you add ethernet cable directly to the camera or does it have tk be wifi?
@JoshsSmartHome14 күн бұрын
I believe that the Ethernet could provide the network connection long term. It’s used for initial setup on the WiFi devices. Unless the particular camera says it supports POE, you would still need the separate power supply.

What was the distance from the wall that you installed the lights?
@JoshsSmartHome14 күн бұрын
I install the lights about 3 inches from the wall. I use a piece of cardboard that is about 3” as a template and hold that against the wall and put the light against it then press it up. It keeps everything consistent which is the most important part to get them looking good.

That’s a lot of motion sensors; any reason for not using presence sensor for bigger zone instead?
@JoshsSmartHome15 күн бұрын
That’s a great question. The main reasons are the layout and associated costs. Most of the adjacent areas have corners around which it wouldn’t be able to properly track. Think lots of “L” and “C” shaped areas. The cost of the motion sensors are typically under $15 when I’m buying, so I get 3 or more for the price of a single presence sensor. Additionally, I don’t like the cords to the outlets and most presence sensors have to be maintained in a separate platform which isn’t my preference. Let me know where you disagree as I love these collaborative thoughts.

When it landed on the gaps, I either cheated it towards a flat surface or used double sided super awesome 3M tape to bridge the gap and stuck it to that. I haven’t had a single light fall off without a human causing it and some of my lights have been up about a year and a half. As long as you clean well and press long they stay. I did both mine on hotter days, but I’m not sure if that made a difference or not.

Hi Josh great job with your video and the installation. I am planning to install this in my house in my deck, I was wondering what should I do if the area is less than the length of the whole line, is there a way to turn the extra lights? I image you can cut the line either. I appreciate your feedback, thanks
@JoshsSmartHome29 күн бұрын
Thank you for the positive remarks. You have a couple options. Although the lines are not officially curable I’ve seen people say they have cut and it works as long as sets of 4 lights are maintained - this is at your own risk and would likely void the warranty, but you could look for it in Google. Next, to point out, the strings aren’t the whole line, they are about 15 feet each. You can also set a certain light off, but that is limited based on the pattern. Finally, you could hide/cover them which I have had success doing with another brand. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
