The fact that you don’t even use tweezers to plant - you must be a master of some kind 😮

I love certain plants like Pinantifida or Bolbitis mini that grow emersed but hardly any videos with shallow tanks showing how to do so and where to place them as they usually need substrate soil or placing on rocks or wood but accessing nutrients in water and soil ..

I was super excited about this until I saw the ginormous fluval filter that I don’t even know WHERE it goes and then the CO2 contraption 😅🤣 this is not a beginners setup. I’m a beginner and I’ve been fully immersed in everything ponds, tanks, aquatic plants, parameters etc for the last eight months and I have no intentions of going near CO2 anytime soon. I would say it’s a “minimalistic” tank, sure. But to say it’s beginner friendly isn’t really accurate. 😬 don’t get me wrong it’s beautiful, it’s just not as easy or beginner friendly as you may perceive it.

It's not a beginner's tank, but I think most beginners could acomplish something like this! Really love the end results you got. Any idea which kind of 'big rock' this is?

Sand with no water filtration through it and you are asking for a zero oxygen environment. Look out for Cyanobacteria.

Ummm... My lava stone DEFINITELY affected the ph of my water in 3 different tanks. In my 1st tank, it made it harder & softer in the other 2. I'm certain that it's because of the bacteria colonies that set up in it & thrive because of all the tiny pockets. It's worth doing a test. Check out Modifying and reacting to the environmental pH can drive bacterial interactions - NIH

I have 2 questions: 1. As you mentioned, the substrate (the base layer) lasts for months and nourishes the plants. After a year, should we consider adding supplement capsules? 2. Is there any advantage to adding a sand cap on top of active Soil?

I spent the most on my tanks. Everything else is pretty cheap in comparison, but it's still too expensive. I love my cories. I love my shrimp. I love my betta. I'm still pissed about a company screwing me over on sending me rummynose tetras instead of rasboras that I wanted to breed... But it gives me time to cycle another tank in the meantime while waiting for another batch from a different company in the fall once temps have gone back down.

is this tank using a fert or somethink to make the bolbitis and fern grow natural?
